OK,
This is my first stab at trying fo fab/ weld something...
Its a cart for my little mig.
The metal is pretty thin gauge stuff, and I burned through in a few spots which I had to fill in and go back over. Also, I was having problems getting good 45* cuts, so I was fighting gaps that needed filling in as well!
I think Im gonna put a pan in to bottom for the helmet, gloves and such.

Lemme know what you think,

Kieth-I'd be proud of that! I'd say great job.

Believe it or not, I welded my first welds ever tonight. I learned that my welder works awesome, that my cheapo auto darkening helmet works OK, and that horizontal welds are easier than vertical welds.

Keep it up!

Your rocking it brotha!

I like it, great first project.
Keep it going.

Put a spot to wrap your cords on it. and hang your helmet. Don't put it under, you will hate bending over all the time.

I wonder if I can find a pic of my cart I hacked it together from parts of an old psh mower, brushguard, Ubolt, and scrap metal.

Mine is made from the skeleton of a portable BBQ grill. And some pieces of old furniture.

Very cool...just curious why did you make the top smaller than the rest of the cart? The welder fits nicely in the little pocket, but personally I think I'd just make the top the same size as the bottom, but looks very nice how you did it.

Are you welding with flux-core wire only? I don't see a bottle, or a spot for one...I need to come up with a cart for my welder, was thinking something along the idea of a 'normal' welding cart, but from some of my buddies who do alot say to just buy one of those rolling racks from Costco/Sams, cut some of the rack out for a drop-in tank and the extra space will be nice...so they say...

Nice work!

Thanks for the replies gents!
I was making plans (saving some of the stock) for the gas to mount diagonally underneath where the welder sits...So, it mount as if it were on a cylinder carrier. I have to actually GET the cylinder first, so I can have the true dimensions.
The reason I made the base wider was for stability! Since it is so top heavy, I worried about when I was rolling it, that the wheels may get hung up an an expansion joint in the garage and tip easily.
I was trying to think of a way I could wrap the cords...the ground cable and the power cord are easy cuz they are flexable and will wrap easy, the trigger cord is a different story. Its a fairly rigid cord that does not like to be bent too much cuz the wire runs through it.
If you have any ideas for this, please let me know.
BTW...I made this for FREE!!! One of our customers is an ornamental GATE builder....I asked permission to go picking through their bins, and got a SH*T load of good stock to use. The only thing that cost me was the casters and hardware...5 bucks a piece. me too! :hillbilly: :hillbilly: :hillbilly:

Thanks again,

Chicago

How did you wrap your trigger cord? I was trying to figure a way to do this, but the cord is rather un- forgiving.

Hey Andy,
I saw that you bought the miller....Congrats!
Lets see some pics of the welds!
The welder Im using is the companies...Im going to be buying my own for the garage and I will have to make a whole new set up for it, as this cart will go to the shop with the welder when I return it.
Im saving to do the mods to the rig, so I have a BUNCH of restless energy NOT being used on my rig, so I had to have some form of cheap entertainment...I needed welding abilities, so I thought this "down time" would be an opportune time for some self teaching with the help of the MUD board for instruction and criticism.
I really wanna get started on the rig so i can head out with you guyz again and not get the SH*T beat outta me again!!!:D

Nice welds.
I just learned to weld this past spring.
Slider and rear bumper project.
Your cart is super stout probably even alittle over kill but hey I know what you are thinking. If it metal and not being used for anything else then I'm welding it.
Thats a lot of welds and they look to have good penetration and not porous. I kept getting in hurry and would forget to turn on the gas. Snap, crackle pop, nasty welds. Grind off, start over. Wish I had one.

A garden hose hanger is good raw material that can be "modified to fit".

And it goes with the BBQ cart decor :hillbilly:

Paul-I'm laughing so hard you can probably hear me. That is some serious ghetto booty fab! I love it. You Ohioian's are a thrifty bunch. Now I want to see JimC's built on the barbeque.:D
