Hello. I'm a long time Toyota Tacoma owner, but with four kids I needed more passenger space. I've just purchased my first Land Cruiser. A one-owner, blue 2007 with 178,000 miles, navigation, bone stock and in great cosmetic/mechanical condition. Previous owner had it serviced religiously at the Toyota dealership. I'm looking forward to spending more time driving this truck and reading on this forum. Right now I'm particularly interested in some slight improvements to my daily drive with my new truck.

Navigation/DVD
I've read some of the nav system hack threads here, but I'd like to know, before I take apart the dash, what map software/firmware updates will not allow the speed sensor hack to work with the Nav/DVD? I don't have an over-head dvd player, but the cd changer in the hidden center console says it plays DVD's. Will this truck even play DVD's on the dashboard? Separate from the dvd player, will the hack allow the use of the dashboard touchscreen without having to click "agree" every time I start the truck on the navigation splash screen (wow, it's like agreeing to the Windows terms and conditions every time my computer comes off screen saver...)?

Cell phone
Any one used any aftermarket Android/generic cell phone holders which mount to the dash/console? I have one that clouds to the vent find but it isn't rigid. I was thinking something from Pro-Clip

Toyota Land Cruiser 2003-2007 ProClip Center Mount - ProClip USA

But that solution costs around $100 with the mount and phone holder. Anything less expensive?

Also would like to get Bluetooth audio integrated into the stereo system. I currently have this wired into my 97 toyota tacoma...

I found this thread
Bluetooth
but there wasn't much detail on how to connect/wire an aux input. Also, I checked out the Vais site, but wasn't sure what those systems can do that I can't do with a stand alone Bluetooth adapter wired to a DIY aux input?

Aftermarket bumpers
So I'm drooling over the aftermarket bumpers and tire carriers, but I'm really disappointed to learn the the major players in the market (slee, arb...) seem to all state that the hitch receiver isn't rated for towing. I don't even have a hitch receiver on the LC right now, so I was thinking of just going ahead and upgrading the back bumper instead of spending the money on a stand alone tow bar. That was before I saw the cost of some of those (WOW $2k plus!) aftermarket bumpers. So I'm thinking that the $100 tow bar sounds a little easier to swallow right now because I don't want to pay $2,500 and not be able to pull a trailer.

I'm located in middle Georgia and have since seen 2 other 100 land cruisers parked outside of the building I work at on a military base, so I'm hoping I can connect with some other local owners.

I hope this isn't too many questions in a single post, and I look forward to talking with you fine folks more in the future.

Chris

A lot of the aftermarket bumpers with hitches aren't rated for towing because of insurance and liability reasons. The process it would take to rate a bumper is cost prohibitive to most bumper manufacturers outside of ARB.

Nice cruiser! With the above being said, I would still trust the slee/arb/dissent for towing. I bet they are stronger than the stock hitch!

So does that mean that I can tow a 4000# trailer with the aftermarket bumpers, it just doesn't have the official "rating" stamp of approval?

Id trust it!

i concur with others about the 'rating'. what are you planning/needing to tow?

as for bluetooth, the sound quality from the factory stereo is pretty sub-par IMO. so with that in mind, I picked up one of these for $20. pretty easy to use, no messing with wiring/dash disassembly, etc.

if nothing else, it's a good, inexpensive stop-gap until you find the best solution for your needs.

Well, I want to be able to tow my utility trailer with building materials from local supply stores, loads to the dump, stuff around the farm, camping trailer etc...

So far everyone has told you an aftermarket bumper would tow what your needing too. Don't know what else you want us to tell you. You should be more than fine.

Well as far as the "I Agree" bypass, and the Bluetooth audio input, the VAIStech SL3B will take care of both of those issues.

Installed Vaistech SL3b on 05 LC

As to what it adds over an DIY "Aux input" w/ a generic Bluetooth adapter. Better integration. Factory LC controls to manipulate the iPhone/iPod. Song/Playlist displayed to Nav screen. "I Agree" bypass.

If I remember correctly the center console changer will play DVD video on the nav screen (w/ the hand brake set), but I've never had much use for it.
