Well, I am about burnt out for the weekend. I can't get this thing to work for me. I have spark, 45 psi fuel, all relays working, all fuses fine, and it won;t even act like it wants to start. I am thinking the injectors might be shot, but I thought at least a few would let some fuel out and get a little bit of combustion.

My CEL flashes, but not fast like a bad ECM. It flashes, then pauses, flashes, then pauses. I am going to call AFI Monday and see what they can offer. I tried to start it until my battery died. I am charging it and will go back out and try it one more time just in case it had too low of voltage to run the ECM or something. I am also going to see if I can pull some codes on it shortly. I couldn't even get it to pull the #12 code, so who knows. If you have any ideas, I am all ears.

Did you shoot any starting fluid down the throttle body to see if it will fire?

Yeah, just gone done with that after the battery charged. I am pretty sure it is the injectors. I can get it to fire ever so slightly on it's own intermittently, and I can get it started with starter fluid. So I guess I am shopping for new injectors. There goes another $160 to the conversion, but I had a strong suspicion it would need them. These injectors have been sitting for over 2 years. Someone might could get them refurbished, but it will cost $100. Figure I shouldn't take the gamble and just get new ones.

I have checked/replaced the following:

New coil
New IAT sensor
tested ignition control module

Everything else is old. I'll start with new injectors and see if I can just get it running and see what codes, if any it throws before start throwing more parts at it.

Thanks for the link, but at $20 an injector to clean them I can buy 8 reman. Bosch III "upgrade" injectors for $160. Gotta love GM parts. I bet one Yota injector is $100?

All the guys on the thirdgen. sites and Corvette sites run these injectors and have great things to say about them. They come with 12 month warranty if they go bad for any reason.

Jeremy

Yup the Yota injector is not a cheap one. Fro the 22res the Bosch arent worth a darn. Not sure about GM. Are you doing a throttle body with two injectors or are they on a rail?

Did you check to see if the injectors are even attempting to fire? a CEL that flashes/pauses/flashes sounds like it's trying to spit out a code. Get a noid light, i'll bet it's not firing them.

On a rail, it a MPFI system like the put on the old Camaro's and Corvettes.

I like the idea of the noid light. I can check that since I have until monday to order new injectors.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Also just read that I can use a stethoscope and listen for a click if the noid light proves that the ECU is sending the signal. No clicking sound is supposed to be a bad injector.

Jeremy

Autozone next to my house has the noid lights on their loan a tool program. They also saved me from buying a new ignition module by testing it out first. I had no idea they could test small electronic items like that. Guess I am new to the electronic repair world. My prior experience has always been with carbs, points, etc.

Good to know!

NOID light test checked out ok. Both sides of the harness is sending a signal. Next I tested for the clicking sound in each with a stethoscope. It was hard to tell what to listen for at forst, but I finally noticed what it was. A very faint clicking sound can be heard on all injectors. Next I tested the OHM resistance on each, and got 16 across the board. Anything less than 12 is supposed to be a bad injector. I am going to chalk it up to severely clogged injectors and decide whether to have them cleaned or just buy some that have already been rebuilt. I looked into rebuilding them myself by buying a $20 parts kit and a lot of patience, but don't think I have the time or trust myself to do it.

We'll see, gotta decide by tomorrow evening, Either spend $120 to have them rebuilt, or buy a set of Bosch re-manufactured for $160. My gut tells me the original Delco injectors are better than the Bosch III's, anyone know for sure?

nice to see some one else having to fight with there truck for a change.

Great customer service at AFI! I just talked to Calvin, and he thinks it would be a good idea to send him the ECM and my injectors to confirm that they are the problem before I spend $200 on new ones. Since I am going out of town this weekend anyway and won't be able to finish it up, figure it is worth it to get them checked for free just in case.

I am going to be ordering a set of Bosch III's from fuel injector connection in GA anyway, but I need to confirm that it is the injectors and not something else first. Even if the injectors are flowing, they are stock GM Multec's and do not have SS parts. Therefor any ethanol fuel will corrode the springs and they will not work. Plus they are famous for clogging after sitting, so that is not something I want to deal with. Something to think about for all you TBI guys as well. The Bosch injectors are all 2000+ technology and are SS, so you don't have to worry about them. Plus I saw some flow tests on the Multec's and it looks like they have a hard time dealing with changes in fuel psi. Not sure how that relates to TBI, but I know TPI can affect them, and they actually stop working at over 45 psi.

Too be continued!

Just spoke with AFI, and it looks like the first 4 injectors are fine. He will test the other 4 and the ECM tomorrow and we will know for sure. He also said that if the other 4 flow like these to re-install them and save my money.:bounce::bounce2:

Funny how the place selling injectors said that these injectors suck, and will be eaten up by ethanol fuel, and AFI said that the ethanol fuel will actually clean them. Guess they were just trying to sell injectors.

Anyways, we'll see what happens tomorrow.

All I can say is that if anyone in the club tries to buy any aftermarket FI stuff from anyone other that AFI, I will kick them in the A$%.

Kevin out there is GREAT! I had a bad ECM, so he tested another unit and got it sent out the next day. He also took my injectors and tested each one. He said they worked fine, but cleaned them for me for free just in case. Hot damn, it's on its way by the big brown truck, and I will be able to hook it back up Monday!:bounce::bounce2::bounce::steer:

She runs like a scalded dog now! I swear she sounds like she has twice the power as before. The throttle response in UNREAL. I have no idea how people live with carbs. now.

I should have her out for a spin in a day or 2. Just have to install the pedal and cable and she is done. Just in time for this nice weather.:steer:
