That is busy, I have a friend that runs float trips though, and will either have a permit on the Salmon or Snake this year. And we have Turkey's here, they are dumb and don't know they are being hunted (transplants only 10 years ago), Mule deer, pheasants, elk...depends on the time of year.

Hey guys, just wondering if all of this desmogging is possible on the FJ62 3FE? I've been skimming through and have read it all on the FJ60. If I plug both the EGR valve and the EGR vacuum modulator will that hurt anything? I would eventually (when I get back from vacation) like to de-smog my Cruiser.:steer:

JIm

Jim, will you pm me when you get a chance? i want one of your smog pump replacement idler pulleys and also to send you my carb and dizzy to work your magic on

thanks

I used the firm stuff (which still bends plenty)

Here are the numbers:

3mm - 5041K-22
6mm - 5041K-24

I got 32FT of the 3mm and had about 8ft left over (HAC delete Desmog)
12FT of the 6mm and had about 3ft left over

I got it in Red which is actually orangy-brown

Works great!

This is through Carr-McMaster

It coordinates nicely with your Fram oil filter too! :grinpimp:

ummm, I don't drive it enough to know. I didn't do it for the gas mileage gains, mine started with a siezed smog pump and a bunch of vacuum leaks that I got tired of tracking down....so besides laziness and frustration, I would say I did it for ease of maintenance, though it is just slightly peppier now then it was.

Ditto, same reasons, but along w/ the major tune-up I saw large peppiness gains. But I'm guessing 16-17 miles per gallon now on the highway

my brother and i did the hack job of all hack jobs when we did a smog removal (we removed EVERYTHING) on my first land cruiser ('79 FJ40) about 15 years ago.....it ran beyond terrible, then one day it backfired deafeningly LOUD and never cranked again....i wound up just putting a 350 in it lol

that's one solution...

Whats the difference between the BVSV1 and BVSV2. When i was going thu and taking off the old vac lines one of the ports on the BVSV1 was broke. I was wondering if I could just use the BVSV2 in its place and plug the lower hole with a bolt??

those who have done this.....what kind of gas mileage gains are you seeing?

I went from getting 12 MPG on the highway to 17 MPG. No joke! Now if only I could get a 5 speed...:hmm:

That's incredible, just goes to show that inadequate smog equipment can be very determintal, and it's best to junk it...

I was getting 15.5 on the highway, but that was with a TON of junk in the back. I'll report after this tank to let you guys know what my mileage is since I've taken all the parts out of the back ( 4.11 third, Ironman springs, H55, spare split case, etc. ).

The difference is the temperature.

Try using the other BVSV. Worst that happens is the engine runs funky as it warms up. If so, temporarily plug the vac source to the BVSV, and get the correct BVSV ordered from somebody who has a parts engine lying about.

I sell the allen head pipe plug(s) to go in place of the BVSV(s) and the air injection fittings. LMK if you need some.:grinpimp:

well i keep it in the garage so warm up right now shouldn't be too bad. I will get a new BVSV. Thanks

and I already have your desmog kit;)

I can vouch for the allen head pipe plugs from Jim, worked great, perfect fit, prompt service. So if anybody else needs them, don't hesitate to place the order. The hardest part of that part of the project was removing the air rail.

As far as my own desmog, actually got some work done this weekend. (Not much) Removed the pipe that feeds into the rubber hose that feeds into another pipe that feeds into the exhaust (Jim told me what this was called, but I forgot) and I plugged the rubber hose with a bolt until I get to the exhaust work. Also removed the headlight washer reservoir, as it was broken, and did some degreasing. Planned on finishing degreasing, but it got cold outside, and it's supposed to be over 50F for the product that I had in my garage.

Plans:
Order all new vacuum tubing, probably McMaster Carr, get the rest of it degreased, then post a bunch of pictures so that everyone can tell me what I did wrong, did right, could do better.
