One day I'm going to get a tailgate lid to finish off my desmog too. Just kidding, but I do love those things (I'm assuming you mean the one from wagongear.) I'll look into it some more, Meant to drop the skidplate last night and see exactly where it goes, but didn't get to it. So I'm taking friday off, and locking myself in my garage.

Aha, I see your confusion on the "gas filter".
They label it Gas filter in the engrish translastion.
Gas= air=vaccum.
You're interpreting it as gas=gasoline.
It is the gas or air or vacuum filter.
Yes, anything screwed into that hole in the manifold will be seeing manifold vacuum.

Which of the vac advance fittings on the dissy is utilized depends on tuning factors.

The two of you are talking about the same AIR hose/pipe.
It is metal pipe on top of the fenderwell, then heat insulated rubber hose under brake MC, then steel pipe down under the floor to the front of the cat.
The proper fix is to drop the front exh pipe, cut the AIR pipe off and weld hole shut.
The hillbilly fix is to cut the rubber hose under the MC, and stuff a big bolt or a rock or a stick in it.

Ok, so I'm ok with being a hack and a hillbilly, This is my truck and I don't plan on selling it for a long while, so big 'ol bolt and a hose clamp it is. Eventually, when I get that much further into the truck I'll cut it all out and weld it. Thanks Jim for always telling us how to do it right, and the hillbilly way.

I didn't know I could use a stick!!!!! man, that would have saved some time.
It never ceases to amaze me that you can keep your sense of humor with so
many of us pulling a Helen Keller on this project.
So, if anyone has "compressed air release" or "Pop" noises eminating from under their glovebox inside the cab when they start up, they are experiencing small vapor explosions in their distributor under the cap from the distributor vent not being plummed correctly (LIKE ME)

yup, oops indeed....and I threw away my "gas filter" the little guy plugged into the front arm of the intake, so now I have to find a way to tap back into that source of vacuum and my measurements seem to indicate a 10mmx1.25pitch hole and NO ONE has anything resembling a vaccum port in that size.

The hole in the manifold for the gas filter is a 1/8"BSP (pipe fitting). If you post here on Mud you can probably get somebody to mail you one out of a junk engine for a reasonable price. They are available, depending on smog configration, with 1, 2 or 3 fittings. You would actually prefer one of the really old ones w/ only 1 fitting. But take whatever you can get. They can also be found in junkyards on toyota engines of all types.

but not quite the fitting I'm looking for as I need vacuum not a plug.
On Jims suggestion, I swear thats what I have but its not threading
(maybe thread damage??? I have the 10mm bolt plugging it right now)
I imagine I can get another off a Toyota motor or I can tap out to next standard size. If I make sure to get all the filings
