You may remember the slide on cAmper I had few months back. After much thought I decided to sell it as it wasnt quite right for my needs ,although it was damned comfy on a cold night:D

I found something more my style in the classifieds and bought it on the spot.
It was custom made in Queensland for a couple who were using for an extended trip around oz until they (probably the wife) decided they wanted somethng more suited to long term travel.

The camper is made from all aluminium alloy and stainless steel and weighs about 350 kgs . Its fully wired for 12V and can be run from its own batteries or from the engine's batteries.
It has 3 fluro lights and plugs for more of needed
The big ass 80 litre Waeco fridge/freezer came with it and works great and I still have room for my 50 L Weaco,so I can use one as a freezer and one for drinks and non freezables.

Ive been thinking about having something like this bult for a few years but couldnt find anyone to help with the fabrication so I was really impressed with it the moment I laid eyes on it.:D
It can also be fixed to an offroad trailer if desired.

Its getting 2 new batteries this week ,either twin 75 or 100 amp deep cycle, depends on the fit.
Later on I plan to get solar panels.
I also have room room in that cavenous sliding compartment for my 1000w yamaha gen

Im not aure about the water tank size, but its looks about 70-80 litres.

At the moment Im carrying a spare around strapped to the top but I plan to lift the alloy tray an inch and build storage underneath for 2 spares or 3 if I want.

Planning a shake down cruise to a cattle station with 400 sq miles and a river running through it next week if all goes well.

All the doors and sliders open and close effortlessly. All are lockable with flush latches.
Kitchen sink and stove folds up for storage.
The RH side is the where the batteries go and and has the fuses and isolator switch.

The canvas up top takes 3-4 minutes to erect but I may swap it for a F/G pop top with a leg on each corner(the canvas gets too hot during the day).

Inside view of the tank. It has 2 faucets and a 3rd outlet for a hot water system.

WOW!
That is a really great setup. All you need is some surf racks ;)
Maybe someday in the US we will have something that cool, until then I will just have to live in awe of Australian land cruisers.

Thanks but I dont think they make long boards big enough for me:D

That looks like a great buy! It looks like a really well made piece of kit and suits your truck perfectly. Plenty of space for stubby storage in those fridges!

That's a very nice set-up. If you ever decide to sell it, please let me know. I think I could figure out a way to get it here.

LOL Thanks,Ill keep that in mind, but it really is just a box with some fancy roller slides and doors put together in a very clever way with a roof top tent .
If you ever want to build one I can send you some close ups;)

Very nice Ross !

Thanks. Yes I am impressed with the design an the workmanship. Being a one off it is a prototype and does need smoothing around the edges but it is functional as it is.

I got 2 fridges now Fred so I can have the small waeco for food and the big one with enough booze for an extended trip

Cool set up Rosco. I like this one better than your old slide on.

Where would you mount the solar panels if you got them? Hinged bracket so it could tilt with the tent?

OK, just reread the thread and figured out f/g top = fibreglass top.

That would answer my question about where you want to mount the solar panels.

Thanks Mick;)
Im having more fun with this before Ive even left home as I can do so many little things to customise it to my needs:D
The old slide on was a bit mono purpose for me. The couple that bought it were thrilled.

I still have to find someone who can supply a pop top roof and canvas, but Dove Campers told me they would have a look.
If I have to go custom ,I will get the top made out of checker plate to match the lower half.

I installed a 100A Delkor battery ,tray and charger/12v transformer yesterday. The 3 fluro lights work great at night.
Still have some wiring to figure out.
I also think the wiring/connections are robbing me of some voltage and I will be load testing it to see if I can make it more efficient.
I will probably get another 100 Delkor calcium as a dedicated fridge battery
Today Im going to put in some tie down points for the interior.

I have yet to decide how to fix the whole lot to the tray but I am firming towards closed s/steel turnbuckles with collared eye bolts, they are surprisingly cheap.
I want it strong enough to use the jacks to lift the whole tray and camper off so I can get in there and make storage for 2 tyres in between the tray chassis:D

Get the second one now and wire them in parallel. Most battery types do better when the draw is low and will be able to output more amp hours of current. This has to do with internal resistances in the batteries. Paralleling the two batteries will halve the current per battery when it is powering the refrigerator only.

I'm wondering why you went with a calcium battery?

Im still thinking about this one. Im planning a trip soon

Why not? They have a good name here and couldnt find anything bad about them.
I also had one for about a year before and it worked well, although I only recharged it 30 times or so.
The Delkor site explains
Delkor Corporation

There were supposedly better batteries about ,but I didnt want to fork out extra $$ for batteries that only get used on 4-5 times a year

What tires do you run?

Are those split rims?

Any problems with punctures running tubes?

They are cheap Korean Nexen or Roadstones(old name) 10 ply 235x85x16 A/T and they are split rims.

Ive never had a puncture off road before until I put the tubes and split rims on.
Im thinking about going back to tubeless and carrying tyre pliers so I can still repair my own easily.

I spoke to the inventor of one type of tyre pliers and he says one of the downsides to tubes and split rims is they dont make high quality tubes any more.
He also owns a Shell roadhouse on the main highway out of WA and says most of his punctures are on split rims these days
