Only one thing to say...very nice, it is always nice to see someone come back to force once dabbling with a HEEP.

Diamond plate is the devil. Satan Bullzeebub. Personally, I like the before body shots better, but to each his own!

Post 75 had ambulance doors, disc brakes, door panels etc...

True about smog, but I had planned to use a new GM fuel injected crate motor. It would have gotten passed by the referree.

But yours has rear doors which are usable with the top off. Not a bolt in solid piece.

You're better off doing a mini knuckle brake conversion than having the '76 through '78 small pattern knuckle.

I have no argument with the doors.

You do have the worst off road carb in the world on that thing. A quadrajet or TBI conversion would make you allot happier on the trail. Probably runs great on the street though!

Your plate is the original. Has a quality all it's own. Unfortunate letters however!

Plates

Old plates rule! :grinpimp:What it says is just a conversation piece just as a cruiser:)

So the next project is a winch and bumper. Anybody know one that will work with the Saginaw setup pictured? Opinions appreciated.:)

I was thinking of going with FABULOS!

That's even gayer than GEY! Keep the plate, says allot about the rig. Bought originally in California, Hasn't been re registered twenty times, non opped, salvaged, built from parts, etc... You get the idea. I'll bet none of your old man's Cruisers had anything but original plates.

The only winch that'll fit between the frame rails with a Sag box is an 8274. Also probably the best winch you can buy. Bumpers are all over the map. You can buy aftermarket stuff Manafre sells some. I just modded my front one by shortening it, boxing the ends and mounting the 8274 fairlead right through it.

Very true about Dad's rigs. Here's one of them.

My dream winch!

I feel the same way. It's just a little dress up until next summer when it gets final bodywork and paint. Had the D/P in the garage from my old '70.

your redheaded wife has way more patience than my red headed wife. s*** I wouldn't have even got out of the driveway, let alone 100 miles down the road. my 67 Fj40 looks alot like yours, Keep it red it is the ultimate cruiser color. Anyways that a pretty sharp looking rig. Congrats on the find.

I still wish you had found and restored your pop's old rig. Best lookin' old school 70s cruiser I've ever seen (love the paint job). Next time. Good work though. Not a fan of diamond plate or cruisers with their original hearts ripped out but WAY better than a heep. Can't believe you ever left the fold after so many great kiddie memories with your dad in a 40.

rubi to 40

I had a 2005 rubi unlimited and it was a great driving vehicle but I wouldnt take it off road cause it was brand new and cost too much. Now I have a 71 40 and I think it will cost the same by the time I am done!:lol:

But I like it much better and it will go off road

looks like you got a nice rig there

Thank You!

I did a good deal of wheeling in the Jeep and I have to say it did better off road than any other 4x4 I've owned. Quick List of my previous 4X4's:

1. 1983 Toyota SR5 shortbed pickup
2. 1970 FJ40
3. 1970 Chevrolet 3/4 ton longbed pickup
4. 1975 Jeep CJ5
5. 1999 Dodge 3/4 ton longbed pickup
6. 1985 Jeep CJ7
7. 1970 International Scout 800-A
8. 1951 Willys Wagon
9. 1954 Willys Wagon
10. 1984 Chevrolet Blazer (full size)
11. 1977 International Scout II
12. 1973 International Scout II
13. 2004 Jeep Rubicon

I think that once I get some lockers in the 'Cruiser, I should be able to go anywhere the jeep went. The best thing about that jeep hands down, was the lockers.

i dont like those white fender flares but since your dads truck had them i understand. wish ihad one of those willies wagons u had, my dad had one when i was growing up. we had lots of fun in that truck
