I understand that one can install and utilize a Multi Terrain Select Module in a GX 460 that does not have it. Can the same thing be done in a 2008-2011 model year LX 570?

I’m not sure you’ll see much benefit, but it’s an interesting thought question.

On the GX it’s a separate module. On the LX it’s actually part of the skid control ECU. You would need to replace that, but also rewire quite a bit as the pin outs change.

Im always on the lookout for a used ECU but no dice so far.

Ahhh. I did not know that it was part of the ECU on the 570 instead of a separate module as I had been reading about with the GX platform. So an ECU from a GX 460 would be what you would need?

Honestly not sure that would work. Certainly not plug and play. Question would be whether the terrain select functions on the GX would mesh with the skid control on the LX.

Good point. Could confuse everything, even if one were to get it wired in. Just wondering. I have a 2004 GX 470 230K, and am looking for a bigger version like LC /LX. Since 06-07 LX 470's are close to what an early model 570 are in $$ I was leaning toward the 570 with more HP-Torq and crawl control. After driving a LR LR4 I must state that I like the fold flat seating and their Terrain Management System is very good but obviously reliability and cost of repairs is a deciding factor. I know Lexus / Toyota is Wayyyyy better built but thought if one could put a Terrain management system in a 570...wow! best of all worlds. At least for me.

I don’t understand why you think terrain management is necessary to update in a gen 1 200. What specific function is necessary?

I am just basing it on my experience with 2004 GX 470 ATRAC system. Have not driven a 200 series LX 570 offroad at all. Just thinking of getting one and was wondering if a more advanced computer monitoring / management of slippage and braking along with application of torque to specific wheels during certain situations and conditions would be improved with a Terrain Select Module.

I run pretty regularly with my local GXOR chapter - I don't think you'll be disappointed in the leap from ATRAC in a 470 to a 200 series with crawl control.
Awesome, thank you for the input. That is good to know. Like I mentioned I have no actual experience in the 200 series so I appreciate the information. I am going to remove the 3rd row permanently and then figure out what to do about those pesky running boards. I guess SLEE is not making the sliders for them anymore....bummer.

CRAWL is what you need. Don’t worry about MTS. When i off-roaded last year at Big Bend, i used CRAWL exclusively. I did try MTS but I did not find much use for it. CRAWL is awesome IMHO...it is so good (but very noisy!!) that i feel guilty at times in using it...because it makes everything so damn easy!

Sounds like the crawl control is all I need then. Fantastic. Searching for the right 570 everywhere...No difference with 2008 to 2013 right? Want the earlier body style with the more conservative grill work..easier to trim up if needed I think as well.

There are some differences, may not be a big deal coming from a GX. Later models got dual projector headlights, bluetooth streaming audio, different wheels, slightly different snout, different tail lights.

So you were driving with crawl control on all the time?

Unless something changed on 16+ MY, you were using MTS since it gets activated when you engage 4-LO.

I guess so. But I did not change mode...whatever is in middle (rock & mogul?). I just use CRAWL over tricky terrain.

I came here hoping it was as easy as my GX460. I think crawl is a jokey gimmick. Far too noisy and jerky for my liking. I however LOVED multi terrain select and thought it was a very worthwhile addition. In Rock mode it made atrac very quick to respond, whereas I find my 200 to be a little slow and clunky to respond compared to my 460.
