The OE muffler has a rattle & needs to be swapped out.

Is it possible to use a muffler from a 4.7L V8 equipped 4Runner?

No, different inlets/outlets and size.

Theoretically, you could. But why? I would just go with a common aftermarket bolt in replacement that has been covered on here or have a shop weld in an aftermarket unit. I chose the latter.

The 4Runner muffler is free & it would be cheaper than having to buy a new OEM unit. Personally would prefer stock vs. aftermarket sound on this truck.

It sounds like it's not feasible though so looks like I'll just swap with a new OEM unit.

4Runners have that stupid resonator right before the tailpipe too, not sure if that would change something, but makes me think there are other differences that would make it a no-go.

Although I removed mine, our 100's have a resonator before the tailpipe too.

I like stock quiet too. Not much over $100 for a 24” stainless magnaflow. Install maybe $50 to have it welded in.

Darn near stock dB level, just a touch more noticeable on start up- but it is quiet under all operating conditions and more free flowing than stock so you’ll have a touch better low end throttle response.

You left the resonator on yes?

That’s good information!

This shop is telling me $175 to swap mufflers ... sounds like I’m being taken advantage of.

Are you buying the muffler from the shop? If so that sounds reasonable to me.

Yeah resonator on. I originally removed it but went back and had it welded back on. Didnt care for the drone.

$175 otd installed is in the ball park. Its reasonable.

Cool @abuck99, I do not need a muffler yet, but I do NOT want any drone, I don't want loud, nice and quiet with a little throat when I put my foot down.
So I'm keeping your set up in the back of my mind.

Great info ya’ll. Will check YouTube for some examples ... likely after confirming I’m going the magnaflow route given the cost variance.

MagnaFlow 12286 @abuck99 is that the part # you used? Apparently there's an even quieter version & this is an older # hence the question...
