Anyone used an MSD ignition on a 2F before? If so, what was your experience with install and results after the install. Also running a D.U.I

Thanks.

They work, but they don't do anything that any other ignition in good working condition can't do. So why waste money?

I've seen more disconnected laying dead on fender-wells than in action......

Invest your $ on something more useful.........

So you guys are not answering my question. Why do they not work?

I thought they provide a hotter spark, burn more fuel in the chamber, and increase mpg.

What am I missing?

Also running a D.U.I, which the MSD 6A will plug right into.

They do work as ignitions; it is just what you hope that follows is not true.

You can get a "hotter" (higher voltage) spark just by increasing the plug gap, but this does not lead to "more fuel burning in the chamber and increased mpg". If you get a spark, all the fuel burns; if you don't get a spark, it doesn't burn. That is the way it works.

What you are missing is the hype.

I've always been leary of a product that the installation instruction sheet has a foot note that states " don't remove your orginal operating system totally, as in a case of failure reconnection may be necessary to get you back home"

I'm running the MSD Offroad with my 2F and Flame Thrower coil/Pertronic Ignitor, it works great:cool:

But the only thing is these boxes aren't reliable and I'm on the 2nd MSD, the 1st died a year ago or so, so it's correct that in case your MSD dies, you should know how to bypass the MSD to get home:eek:

Jacobs Igniter Box Exploded

I was running one for years with one of their monster coils and a Mallory dual point. Replaced it with the cheapest Mallory HyFire I could find and it runs like a top once again and even starts up better.

I run TFEI, it works for me. I only ran it because I had it otherwise I would still be running points. I am going diesel with the 40. The 2F I put into use on my tractor.BTW,it works great in a 4w assist tractor. It helps keep my front down.
I have been following a lot of the claims about msd, the only thing I read that might be of interest to you is that past 1200 rpms , the test show only one spark from the msd. They claim about 6 sparks at very low rpms and then the nubmer decreases as the rpms get higher. The test was done by a company in the USA, can't remember the name.
Like Pin-head said it takes one spark to ignite the right mixture , if that doesn't work ,then , you need to look for the source of your problem other than a magical solution.

If you search this topic you will find a post where Pin_Head explains in great detail why these, "High Power" ignitions, are simply not needed on a tractor motor.

It boils down to this: If you are running a motor like Matt's turbo https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/134529-2f-3f-e-=-2f-eti-into-my-fj40.html

then you MIGHT see a SMALL gain with a super duper atomic powered ignition at 7000 RPM. Otherwise get an FJ60 ignition system and call it good.

FWIW I also ran a Jacobs Omni-Pak (coil and ignition computer in one box) on a Nissan Pathfinder. First one failed after 11 months. They replaced that one for $70 something dollars. IT failed a little over a year later and they refused to replace it, or even sell me another at the same $70 price. I raised hell and even wrote a letter to the president but never even heard back from them.

It did make a noticeable difference at around 2800 to 4000 RPM but not enough to justify the price tag...

MSD, Jacobs, Mallory all carry the same track record.........
