MrZero divorces 2F for Vortec mistress....

Remember to lift once to see how it's going to raise...reset as needed. When you pull the 2F put a tranny jack on the tail end hoist up the engine to clear the truck and use the tranny jack as the leveler. Once you get it out enough set it down and reset the chains to pull the whole unit. I do this by myself and it is really alot easier than using a leveler. Seems like every time I buy one it strips out no matter how clean I keep it. But I am sure Philos will be around to give you the do's and don't's. Just make sure you use a good grade 8 bolt. Cant wait to see your progress.:beer:

In the last pic, is that where the final resting place is?
It seems a bit close to the fire wall, or is that how theyre supposed to be?
Has anyone done an auto tranny? All you fawkers are using the manuals!

Did It

Search for Paxildog thread. I did his and it has the 4L60E and the resting place is due to the Downey adapter and trying to keep the stock location. I'll get it with moving some stuff out of the way and a little creative engineering.
 
Using the stock tranny? Good question would need to check it but I would say yes. Since the 2f pattern would be the same for the adapters then you need the flywheel and torque convertor to match up to the Vortec. Good guy to get with is Jim @ Downey Off Road. I would bet they have something to do the job.
 
I thought you used AA adapters for the 4L60E.
I did get a quote from them to mate the TC to it.
Im going to get in touch with Downey Off Road and see what the difference in price is.
Any pros cons for either one? or did you just went with Downey from previous experience?

The AA and Downey adapters for the tranny are identical. Downey sold the rights and design to AA. So no matter where you buy it you get the exact same part. And I prefer dealing with Jim either way because no matter what you have he knows more about the cross breeds than any techie @ AA will ever learn. Besides I hate getting to talk to someone @ AA and never get a straight answer. NOT THAT THEY AREN"T A GOOD COMPANY. Just my opinion:flipoff2:

Hey this is good news for me. If I do have to go with them I can actually go and pick either adapter from Downey. They are located about ½hr drive from where I live...Cool stuff. Thanks for the info..
 
I wish I lived that close to them...Make getting stuff alot easier. But if you go to Downey Jim will give you a TON of info in 30 minutes time...He's got to be the walking encyclopidia of Yota swaps...Take a tape record.:idea:

Are they pretty good about dealin with the NOOb?
Ive got feelers out for an engine and tranny. Im thinking Im gonna go with the 5.3, like you all are running, and the 4L60 tranny since I already have an auto and like it (FJ 62)!
I was considering converting over to a manual, but I really donno if its worth it. When crawling the rocks, I like not having to clutch that stuff, but I would like the deep gearing possibilites the manual offers. Plus the engine hold back on descents would be nice as well!
Im just beginning the research, but in all actuality, I have NO CLUE as to where to begin!
It would seem that downey or AA would be a good place to start.

Im a handy guy but when it comes to wrenching, its like trying to speak Korean for me... Im learning as I go and I dont know things will come out, but after seen Philos1 and Dynosoar I figure "hey if this two can do it......" well you get my drift...
I wish I could keep my 5 speed tranny, but it is doubtful.

The a/c works well with the Chevy compressor and have had no problems with cooling. Basically you are making a set of hoses for the A/C with Yota ends on one side and Chevy on the other. Just make sure you get the original factory hoses for the Vortec. But it is a simple transition and neither the engine or the truck notice the difference...Hope this gets you the Vortec bug.:cheers:

Apparently theyre cake to wire up...
We were talking about em at our club meeting the other noc.
They said they were really pricy, but when you add in all the adapters and harnesses etc, it ends up being about the same.
They were saying they run around 5K...Sounds like a lot, but I havent really been pricing the adapters and engines all that hard yet.

Sent it out yesterday will shoot you a copy in the A.M I left it at work. I haven't had the chance to do the ram conversion but if it's anything like the Vortec it's just a matter of time and money. The list I will send has both pricing for 5 speed and auto with adapters.
