Hi. Let me know what you guys are getting.

I see 19mpg highway/city combined all of the time. Seems a bit low to me.

I keep getting the 02 sensor code but then it goes away-it is original on a 160k truck. I know it is time to swap BUT wanted to see if that was going to make a marked improvement.

So, let me know MPG and whether or not your 02 is newer or stock.

Thx

My 1984 22R with Weber 32/36 that is running WAY too rich pulls 22mpg in my 4Runner with LT235/75R15s on stock rims.

I am sure with a tune up I can beat this by a few (new jets, plugs, cap, rotor).

So I would say yours sounds a bit low.

i used to own a 22re powered 85 4runner. The motor had 289,000 miles on it and nothing major on the motor had been changed, neither had the O2 sensor. I would regularly get 25+ MPG.

Hmm, that is what I thought. Although, and interesting enough, my original window sticker states that the MPG for highway was between 19 and 25.

Supposedly, the PO changed the cap, rotor and plugs. A bad 02 is supposed to have this type of effect but that is not consistent with what you are reporting.

Strange

a bad 02 sensor can really mess things up. Mine went bad in my mini after i first got it and it would run okay for a while, then the check engine light would come on and the truck would run like a scalded butted monkey and then it woudl go back to normal, then the check engine light would come back on and my truck would run like i was pulling a house. During the check engine light times it would get about 4 MPGs it seemed. I felt like i could watch the gas gauge move while driving during the CE times.

I got 22 consistently on the freeway running 70 in the hills in a 94 4runner. You should be able to match or beat that in a pickup pretty easy.

heck i can get better than 20 MPG with the 3.0 V6 in my PU and 4runner.

92 22re 33x9.5s 4.88s, odo reads 550kms to a 65L tank (city) but i think the odo is a bit on the conservative side still. i believe that calculates somewhere around 22 MPG (US)

o2 sensor is stock - truck has just under 170,000kms total.

Right

Thanks guys, Sounds like I am really not that far off. I plan on replacing then sensor-just because it really needs it and I will be certain to report back on any changes.

1985 4Runner, performance 22re (DOA), 4" lift (lots of wind), 33" MT/KM tires, 4.56 gears, cruising at 65-70mph. 17mpg on a good day. Toss in a head wind, and, well....

Bolt on the 32" AT's and it jumps to 19-20 @ 70mph. And yes, these numbers compensate for the increased diameter.

Back in the old days it used to get 22-24MPG, but that was at 60-65mph with stock tires. Oh the good old days.

I wouldn't lie to you. If mine gets less than 20 i get worried. I have gotten as good as 23-24 in my PU.

i think the 3.0 V6 was only rated to get 16-17 when brand new. are you maybe using imperial gallons?
