Most of the time I drive my cruiser like it's a hearse. Slow acceleration, no nailing it to pass other cars or gunning it around corners. The total oppositte of how I drive my accord vtec v6. The first 2 days of this week I drove my wife to work, she always runs late and is always in hurry up mode. So each day I burned a 1/2 tank of gas to go around 130 miles. Today I did my normal commute and did around 120 miles on around a 1/4 tank.
It seems that being very gentle with gas pedal and leaving the over drive on and the power button off can make a big difference

It does. I have an Avalon where the trip computer (for avg MPG) resets every time you turn the key off. Very telling how driving style, trip distance, and a warmed up engine can affect your MPG's.:princess::flamingo:

Short trips with a heavy foot will kill your MPG's...

But it's so frickin' fun to nail the skinny pedal to the floor, and the drilled and slotted rotors stop this 5500lb beast on a dime(-ish)...:steer::steer::steer:

Speaking of which, if we ran our trucks easy and left the "2nd start" button on would it help even more? Is it ok to dive with "2nd start" always activated?

Ignore the immaturity. I get that you're trying to make conversation about driving style and mileage. In any case, you might be interested in the hypermiling forums that discuss some of the dramatic mileage increases people have experienced from creative driving techniques.

I get 38mpg. My secret to 35+mpg's your wondering? Drive a different car...

I love these threads because they never make sense. No one bought an LC for the gas mileage so who gives a damn? If you want better gas mileage buy a Prius, end of thread...oh, and plasti-dip gives you 15 extra hp if applied in 3 coats.

I thought you only needed 2 coats for the HP gains?

Sorry, but these threads don't make sense because posts like this. Gas mileage is a part of the package. No, it surely wasn't the main reason I bought the 100. But saying it doesn't matter because of that is like saying that safety (or lack of) shouldn't matter in your Prius. After all, the ONLY reason you bought it was for the gas mileage, right?

In all seriousness I agree. I love it when I get 300 miles before filling up over 250 miles. Besides no one likes throwing money down the drain or visiting gas stations more than we have to. Unless that's your thing of course. In that case use that skinny pedal!

Lessons learned from my Avalon's computer... Assuming same prinicples apply to the LC 4.7...

  1. Avoid short trips (< 3 mi.) They cut your MPG by half. Since the per-tank MPG is a combination of trip MPG weighted by gallons used - not miles driven, this has more of an impact than people think.:hhmm: If that's your life, like carpooling kids to school 1.5 miles each way, you're screwed. 2 miles to the grocery store? Same thing, forget even getting the "city" MPG listed. Your engine is likely cold most for most of the trip, and you spend an inordinate percentage of your trip accelerating under a heavy engine load v coasting.
  2. For intermediate trip distances, 5-10 miles, a properly warmed up engine nets better MPG's on average.:wrench:
  3. For longer trips the engine will always be warm, so this is where driving technique comes into play.:steer::princess:
  4. Hyper-miling techniqes may make you feel better about your own carbon footprint, but they piss off and endanger everyone else on the road... Buy a friggin' Prius...
  5. There's a whole bunch of otehr crap that affects MPG's that aren't worth controlling, so just do your best and roll with it...

No wonder I'm killing everybody off the line!! It was the 3 coats!!!

Hills help. Power up, coast down. If your foot is off the gas on the downhill you'll net better than flat. Doesn't make sense, I know. It works because there is zero fuel burned when coasting above 1,150 rpm. So always avoid feathering the gas and you'll gain a descent amount, even in town.

I drive mine as slow as possible and minimal power necessary at darn near every take off. Very few drive slower than i and my MPG's are still in the worst 2% of vehicles ever manufactured at average of 13.4 and thats with factory sized street tires. I've been honked at and yelled at consistently by road raged fools but my cars last a long time with little maintenance so Im happy.

I've found that at a constant speed of 50 I can get 17 but no better.
