Hows it goin y'all? I am moving from San Diego to Virginia Beach in March and was hoping to get to know some cruiser owners in the area. Im from Georgia originally, but the Navy sent me to SD so it will be nice to get back to some hunting and fishing on the east coast. Ive had my 79FJ40 since HS and hope to do some good work on her in the near future.

If anyone needs anything shipped from out here I could possibly work something out as well.

Hey,

Welcome in advance to Hampton Roads.
This club has been quiet for a while. Maybe we can get a meet in the spring.

Post up when you get in town.

Always open for a beach run.

Dave

Welcome to HR! Hopefully we can do a meet and greet in spring time. Dave, how about a trail ride at Shoe Creek, Va? Let me know.

Welcome to the semi club Spacewrangler, definitely some good hunting and great fishing in this area.

My brother and I would love to do a spring time meet and greet.

I have a new toy that I wouldn't mind showing off and my brother does too.

I am sure I could drag Josh and Nick out there too.

Yeah, Shoe Creek would be fun.
You can camp right on the trail if you want.
Up for OBX as well.

BTW: Saw Wes in the 40 going into the base the other day. Glad to see its still on the road.

Ive never really worried too much about rust until I moved to the coast in San Diego. Im looking for a place to live in Va Beach and was wondering if a garage is a must for my 40? Maybe depending on how far back I live from the coast? I figure it is just asking to see if anyone from the area has a different opinion. Its so bad on this island out here in Ca. Im losing sleep over it...

Thanks

Been here 20 yrs and never had any rust issues. I'm about 5 miles from coast.
Don't see many rust cars here. Except old Toyotas.

Of course I can hear the 60 rusting out there, but it got that before I bought it.

Yeah, I'm ready for obx too but will wait until it gets a little warmer. Too cold to be out there.

Fellas, glad to see some life from some Cruiser fans around here. Myself I'm currently stationed in Oceana and drive a locked 94 that just turned over 97k miles.
A couple of questions if you guys have a second; First is Shoe Creek open during the winter and/or is there any special Offroad permits that must be obtained to go camping and wheelin there? Secondly, anyone have any ideas on some good places to go that are closer to Virginia Beach area. I've been to a couple but they're all just mud. Thirdly, are there any groups that do monthly group trail rides around here?

Thanks,
Stopher

Welcome Stopher, what color is your 94? About info on Shoe Creek I'm still doing a research on that trail.

Hey
Shoe Creek is open year round as it is used by some people that live along the trail. No permit required. Keep in mind that some of the roads off the main trail are private property.
Camping is free/1st come.
** All this is as of 2012,

There really is not any legal wheeling nearby. The 4x4 area of OBX is 25 miles as the crow flies but its around 100mile on the road.

Uwharrie NF in NC is 300 miles but worth the trip.
There are a few more free trails in the VA mountains, GWNF.

There was a private Rock Park in Crozet VA but they have closed for legal reasons. May come back.

Welcome Stopher, what color is your 94?

White with skinny MT's and let me know if you find anything way different than what was posted here.

In any case, thanks for the help DavidAW. My buddy and I are both Yota fans and have been in search for a location to do some 4 wheeling/camping near the local area. I think we have been spoiled as most of the 4wheelin we did was in the Mountains in and around California and Nevada.

Hey y'all I'm just west of Franklin. Down for meet and greets trail rides whatever. Not big on the corolla deal though. Rather drive down to the island as I have a permit.

Guys, if you ever come to URE please let us know in the Olde North State Cruisers clubhouse. One or more of us would be more than happy to give info, show you around, camp, drink your beer, eat your food and siphon your gas. We even have a few vets in the club along with some active duty. Middle of September we host our big annual event there called Logan's Run. Been getting trucks from all around as it grows each year. Lots to do at URE - camp, hike, fish, boat, jet ski, horse paddocks and trails, outdoor range opening this spring. We'd love to have any of you come visit.

Finally made it out here. Love it so far. Any recommendations on a good mechanic in the area? Been messin with this slave cylinder all day and I can't figure it out this time. May try a few more things but it'd be nice to have a good backup plan in case I tap out.

Thanks in advance

If you give up call Phil at DIA automotive he does a lot of cruisers, he did my inspection today. He is located on Viking drive in Va. Beach

Welcome havn't been on the site in awhile. Glad to see life again also. I'll be watching to see if anthing is going to happen. To bad we don't have an offroad park closer. I'm about to put my 02 and 88 Land cruisers back up for sale. I'm Picking up a FJ Ultimate today and just need to get rid of 2 or 3.

My thoughts on a 40 here on the east coast is it sould be at least covered as you probably already know we have some crazy rainy seasons and the 40 isn't the best weather resistant vehicle.
