I want to mount a 20" BajaDesigns S8 lightbar (which I already have) behind my LX's grille. I want it behind the grille to minimize attention and chance of it being stolen, and fairly low so that it will be useful in foggy conditions.

I played around with positioning, and a good spot seems to be right above the aluminum crash bar that's in the bumper. It would position the lightbar quite low and minimize light blockage (by the grille). The front license plate would need to be relocated slightly upwards, but that's minor.

I couldn't find any nice mounting points. At this point I'm thinking my best bet is to drill a few holes in the aluminium crash bar, and either install riv-nuts, or cut some thread in the drilled holes. Then create some sort of mounting brackets that would extend forward (to the grille) and support the lightbar.

Are there any existing solutions for something like this? Can't seem to find anything, but I'd love to buy a pre-made mount.

Aluminum stock, found at any hardware is pretty easy to work with to make a custom mount. Basic hand tools or wood tools is all that's needed. Along with some basic taps. Over the years, I've mounted various things on various cars to the crash bar including intercoolers and most recently an OBA compressor.

Don't mount to the foam as it's not structurally sound, even if it might be thick enough right there. There would be some significant vibration as it's just form fitted. Cut the foam where you want to bolt down brackets.

The crash bar is pretty thick right where you'd mount a bracket to on top. Easy enough to drill, with enough meat to tap for machine screws to mount security.

1" or 1.5" aluminum angle stock would be perfect here too. Easy to cut with a hacksaw or fine tooth jigsaw. Then drill through and use machine screws with nylon lock washers to mount.

That's more or less what I had in mind. Al angle should be just fine for what I need. Vertical side to mount to the lightbar, horizontal side to mount to the crash bar.
