How have others mounted their mobile radios and GPS units?

I have a 90 HDJ81 and am looking for mounting ideas for the faceplate of my Kenwood 710GA and Garmin GPS. I've considered a mounting post I can bolt near my shifter in front of the console before my dash.

What ingenuity have you seen you wish to share? Pics appreciated. 😊

Wits End cubby mounting plate for the Garmin. Panavise dash bracket for the Baofeng. Then a few Ram Mount attachments to bring it all together. Baofeng is hardwired and connected to an external antenna. When in use I'll hook up the hand mic.

Oh and this eBay bracket for the Baofeng: Universal Metal Holster Mounting Bracket for Baofeng UV5R & UV82 Handheld Radio | eBay

Very well thought out. Is that horizontal bar, above your LCD display, mounted to your dash or attached to the support tube in front of your cup holder? I like how you can add additional mounts for other devices.

Wits'End has some neat products, thanks for the name.

That mount to the Bar is cool, that could work for me. I'd want to keep it tight so as not to interfere with my passenger's space, but it would be a strong base to build my mounts on. What would that mount be called, for my search?

Handlebar mount:

I very much dislike clutter, so I have been working to simplify over time. My current setup is my FTM-400XDR face plate mounted where the clock used to be and I use GaiaGPS via car play. Only two screens. I don't have a pic of the Gaia on the Sony screen, but I have used it a ton in the last month or so and am pretty happy with the CarPlay functionality.

I like neatness as well. Did you fabricate the mount for the Yaesu or buy it?

Gaia finally works with Carplay?

I adapted a ram mount ball to the back of the Yaesu and fabricated the clock replacement.

That "tube" is an add-on accessory for the Wits End cubby insert/mounting plate. You can see in LC4LIFE's picture that he has it without the add-on base.

You may consider installing the radio body in the place of the FR (useless) speaker, and the panel in the console, as explained in:

As for the GPS, a good option is a RAM ball and an associated Powerpole plug in the dash, as described in:

Both posts are in the Spanish sister forum HDJseries, but I was the author and will be happy to give any further detail beyond the pics.

Cheers,

Cutrex
