So it turns out the strange sound I occasionally hear when wheeling uphill is the fan hitting the shroud (another MUD credited diagnoses). I can also see way too much movement from the shift levers (side to side tranny rocking) when wheeling.

Is there a specific mount that I should suspect? Visually, they all look ok, but I haven't dove in for a decent inspection. Any tips on changing them?

It's usually the driver's side mount that craps out.

As for changing them, do a search, there's a good bit of info, but basically it's a 2 hour job, you have to jack the engine up slowly from the bottom and look up at the top side (as you are jacking) and detach any vac lines or hoses that might be binding up.

I think My truck is doing the same thing that's crazy! does it happen when your truck is articulating. I have to drive over the median all the time by my girlfriends house and it makes this weird buzzing sound. thats sounds like a possible culprit!

One think is killing me, there are many heavy duty poly motor mount that you can buy for Fords or J**ps, but no other options for TLC . ? awsome ..

Actually I know the stock Toyota ( only Toyota ) motor mounts are pretty good and strong enought, but in my case are very expensive, and hard to find ..

so were do you get them and how much?

In my case in Costa Rica Toyota dealer .. but very very expensive, good price for me 230 USD ( both ) off course original Toyota equipment.

The otherones in my experience, isn't strong enough.

In my FJ60, could not lift engine to r/r mounts !

After loosening upper & lower nuts, lifted engine just enough to 'unload' weight from mount,
then removed 'strut' from side of engine . . .
Lifting engine any further squashed the valve cover into the firewall . . .

Did my mounts last weekend. Also jacked the engine up an inch, then took the strut off the side of the block (3 bolts). Had to remove the alternator to get to it.

OEM mounts are also very expensive here, $170 a piece, so I have reused the original steel plates and bonded some new rubber in between, costing $50

Wooowzer . . .must be real expensive shipping fee . . .

For 'about' the $170 -$200, got both motor mounts and the tranny saddle 'motor' mount.
