I bought a new motor mount for my frame off '81 build last year but have never gotten around to using it as my build has way longer than I ever planned.

So I'm getting close to dropping motor back in and noticed the motor mount purchased looks nothing like the old mounts that were removed over a year ago.

Specifically, the old mounts had studs permanently mounted to each side of mount and then a nut was used to tighten. The "NEW" mount has a stud on one side and a threaded hole on other, where I guess a bolt goes into. The threaded side is raised as if it designed to go in a countersunk recess on side of motor.

I've researched it in diagrams and convinced I got a motor mount for a 75 - 80, remember mine is a Jan '81.

Called the vendor today and he says it is interchangeable and not a big deal.

Maybe not, but I don't feel comfortable using it. Thoughts?

Besides do motor mounts go bad after 28 years and 100,000+ miles?

If you don't want to use it, I'd just stick it in the classifieds section here and buy the proper one...likely less than a rounding error on the total spent on a rebuild.

Motor mounts do break. I just replaced one myself.... If you've got the motor out, and the mounts are original, it's cheap and easy to replace them both, as well as the tranny mount, now.

Todays vendors have this motor mount scenario all screwed up......

You can mix-match or use whatever, but if the rubber mount has the raised threaded area and the attaching cast doesn't have the counter sunk hole, it don't work......

I have cut the raised area off of mounts before and installed them with no problems.......

Or just return the mount and ask for one for a FJ60........same s***, less complicated, easy on their brain........
