Sorry to hijack but...

My glove box plate is in Japanese and apparently explains how to use the "FD" knob. Can I get a translation if I post a pic later?

Otherwise I'll have to post a question asking how to use my "FD" knob with manual locking hubs, etc. and be made fun of for not understanding 4WD basics.:o

Thanks.

You'll be made fun of regardless, so why not just post a pic of it? ;)

translation, FD knob, 4WD question(s)

Here's a pic of my glove box plate which I assume describes how to use my "FD" knob to engage my front wheels.

Any help on the translation would be appreciated. I'll try to get a better (larger) pic if this is too small.

Or...

If anyone knows how I use the "FD" knob in conjunction with my transfer case and manual locking hubs up front please feel free to contribute.

Torch away if this is common sense stuff. I've found a few threads addressing the FD feature but still can't make sense of it.

Thanks.

j,

Since I'm not familiar with the operation myself I'll need a better pic of that.

But I have a feeling that you'll probably get someone chiming in with the info. soon enough anyway.

Here's a better pic.

Thanks, MOT.

j,

I don't have any time to work on it today, but will try to get to it tomorrow, unless somebody beants me to it! ;)

mot,

Thanks. No rush on the translation. I appreciate the help.

I'll probably post a question about how to use it to see if anyone has input.

Whoa, thanks for the reminder!

Here's the literal translation:

How to use the transfer
1. Under normal driving condition, keep it in the "H" position.
2. In a rough terrain, sand, or snow, engaget the front drive.
The switch knob, "F.D" should be used at low speed, while going straight.
3. When towing something especially heavy put the transfer lever
in the "L" position. The front drive automatically engages.
4. On vehicles with free-wheel hubs be sure to operate "1" and "2" while in
the "lock" position.

BTW, the graphic portion, under the picture of the knob, next to the arrow
states "Engaging front drive".

HTH's and GOOD LUCK!

Mot :)

Thanks again mot.

One last thing.

In your translation you wrote:

4. On vehicles with free-wheel hubs be sure to operate "1" and "2" while in the "lock" position.

I was looking back and my glove box sticker has a "2" and "3", not "1" and "2".

Just a typo? Not trying to nitpick, just making sure I understand.

Thanks.

You nit-picker!!! :D

Yeah, you're right, that should have been "2" and "3" and not "1" and "2".

Sheesh!!! :hillbilly:

Maybe he wants you to translate it to japanese:D

HJ37...

Was there ever such a thing?

Don't think so. I was hoping you were going to post a photo of one. BJ73 existed and I think the HJ73 could have.

Mistakes on plates can happen, I have a FJ45 pickup with the model af FJ40... but VIN FJ45- both on the same plate. Does look like the inside of a 40 series though rather than a mis-stamped HJ73.

Google does find this; https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/221607-hj37.html
