I've documented my 98 "street cruiser" it was a 1 minute decision purchased sight unseen off ebay... it was listed 19 minutes before I purchased it with a "buy it now price I could not refuse" I read the ad looked at the 4 pictures and hit the "buy it now button".... I knew it needed an engine and ad said it had sat for a year, BUT it had new leather and it was a Texas Truck Black with tan leather.... AD Pictures were taken as to NOT show the right side side swipe... ad said 325k miles but was only 305K ..... anyway I did the body work while waiting on the ebay purchased engine to arrive... painted it (Left side only) with ebay purchased paint... and replaced a few time worn parts and base line stuff... truck was meant to be a.... haul the dogs to the lake... launch the boat... don't care if it gets dinged up truck... but turns out I LIKE DRIVING IT and it turned out NICE and looks pretty good... EVERYTHING works but the sunroof (seized cables & stripped gears) and the oil pressure gauge (drives me NUTS) I'd rather have the gauge working than the sunroof...

It drives really well... we take it over the wifes LX470 about every time we head out the door (mine is cleaner and always full of gas (another story)

OK that is the back story... but what have you done that continues to please you... that you think... that was worth doing.....

BUT what makes me smile just about every time I drive it.... I sh---t you not.... I really like my blue LED lights in my dash,View attachment 1139987 less than $10 and I really like my $150 double din Touch screen nav stereo unit... that alone makes it seem like a much newer truck... I guess since I took care of all the things that would make it drive well before I ever drove it... I'm not distracted by things I need to fix...
but weird to me that something as simple as blue dash lights please me every time I see them...

Great idea for a thread!

What head unit did you put in?

I have two:
1) Installing my bad-ass 35" MT tires for that sweet go-anywhere look and the ability to go anywhere

2) Removing my bad-ass go-anywhere MT tires, and going back to that awesome smooth riding and quiet AT ride that's great for the actual life I live!

paying for it in cash !

on the truck , I have really enjoyed a dual battery set up (TMAX) I can't count how many times I have used it with a frig. no worries , all day no ice , cold beer.... Plus my kids enjoy the added 12v plugs always on right behind the second row. I know it will still be my number one when I venture to CO this summer for three weeks, camping and exploring. (no ice, more room for beer)

Thanks! Not sure if you recall which one?

This looked close. I am leary of so much eBay stuff. If you have tried it and like it, I like stuff that is recommended...

$131 now $150 with back up camera I think

I've enjoyed it... just make my 98 "seem" newer nav works well as does the blue tooth with my I-phone you do have to file the corners/opening in your stock face plate to accept the double din size... less than 1/16 all the way around and sq up the corners... a bastard file and 15 min and you are done... (file a small dip for the usb cord also if you need it) less than 1hr total install time... mine had an aftermarket radio in it when I got it so I already had the wire harness but if you don't I'd order that also $10

Do you have a picture of the filed down stereo surround? This sounds like what i'm looking for in my '98.

1. Stereo replacement, especially Focal speakers
2. Suspension

Don't mean to stalk, but I did not see any thread on stereo replacement. Do you mind detailing what you went with?

I am pretty sure we would enjoy an update in the stereo department to the '99 LX.
I see lots of folks abandoning the amp and just using the power from the head unit.
We have the Nakamichi, so no wiring adapters exist - boo hoo...

Replaced all the coil packs - fixed spontaneous multiple misfires and improved pre-misfire performance. I wish I had done it as soon as I bought it!

Btw, I want that gps stereo for my 2000 LX470. Can you post an ordering link?

Think I have pictures posted of when I did the install... mine had the single din opening with the small storage space under it... I assume every head unit will be just a little different... the stock opening in my LC had rounded/radised corners... the head unit had sq corners, and the opening just needed to be a hair bigger all the way around... it looks pretty "factory" looking at it

Running Board Delete and Torsion Bar Crank + 285 KO2s. Cant beat the look of the truck without the RBs!

2nd would be doing the top end of the motor after the price I got it for to find that the engine looked basically brand new inside after 190k.

iPod Integration
LED Kit all around
Larger Tires

In that order those were my most satisfying and inexpensive mod

BIOR skid plates love em

i replaced the suspension, almost completely in one shot, but I can tell that Icon 2.5 reservoir shocks on the front were a huge improvement, even with the stiff t-bars and rear springs. Having have IFS toyotas for quite a while, I know the behavior.....the bump zone and valving really woke the 100 up in the dirt...
