Let’s try this again, prior thread deleted, I assume they want to keep it clean, there was no explation given.

If you have sold a 100 series recently and want to share what you paid with details on truck this will be helpful for potential buyers currently looking.

This thread can be helpful for buyers looking to understand the market and different factors that come into play on pricing.

Please stay on topic!

I recently sold 2004 LX with 176k for 12,500. Truck was 9/10 on condition with full service records. Southern Vehicle no rust.

I'm not going to say you are a lunatic, but a 23-year-old car, with close to 250K that needs interior and exterior cosmetic work is not a 15K truck. I would scroll right past that listing.
At some point logic supersedes
I mean,you’re considering a 22yo 180k truck falling apart because it’s so rusty... for $9k. I don’t think I’m too far off.

There's a turn key, immaculate 1999 in River Rock Green Mica that has new seat leather front and rear, excellent paint from the pics, no rust, brand new BFG KO2s, and the seller has a laundry list of OEM parts/work done. It's got similar mileage to your truck (270k on his) but it doesn't have a front locker. His is listed for $16,500 and has been sitting for 3 weeks now. His price is way too high, in my opinion. Nothing personal, but your truck sounds like a lesser version of his truck ("roof needs repainted"/"interior needs some love" specifically) so I think you're also way too high on price. You -might- be able to sell it for $15k, but I think $10-11k is more reasonable. You could always split the difference and list if for around $13k and see what kind of interest you get, but you'll be waiting a long time if you're trying to get $15k out of it.
Good insight ! Thank you

No you are not far off dollars wise, but at this price point I think you are 20-30% over priced, just like the crusty one I was looking at, he started close to 14K. I feel it's a 9K truck.

As for prices, I think the Porsche market is the one to look for guidance. Right now, the prices of 996's have been rising in much the same way 100 series have been. As older models become more scarce and much more pricey! (I remember when air cooled models were CHEAP...), and buyers look for the next opportunity, the 100 series have been the target. Here's a quick article about 996 prices - What's going on with the Porsche 996 market? | Porsche Club of America - https://www.pca.org/news/2020-10-20/whats-going-porsche-996-market
Lucky me, I bought a 996 last March with complete documentation/receipts for half of what it’s worth now. I got an all-original mint/no-rust condition 80 for next to nothing a couple of years ago, and an LX470 from original owner soccer mom that was trading it in. And an original condition FJ40 worth a ton more than I paid. But I can’t sell any of them. We drive every one every day. Sentimental value and genuine smiles and goosebumps worth more than the almighty dollar.

Gotcha. That’s all I was asking. I’d love to get 15 but understand the reality of the truck needing tlc. If it had a fresh coat of paint on the roof ($600) and fresh interior ($2,000~?) it’d be worth what? That’s what I’ve been considering. Spend $3k freshening it up or sell it as is.

I’d look at it this way: pretty much anyone interested in the truck is going to knock $2-3k off for those two items. You could freshen up the truck and spend that money yourself, but best case scenario it adds an additional $500-1000 value to the truck (after you recoup the cost of paint and interior leather). Realistically you’ll just recoup the cost, or lose a little money. Unless you have a friend that will do a good job with the paint/leather install, or you find mint condition seats in a parts truck for a song (highly unlikely), your best avenue for selling the truck is just to sell it as is with $2-3k knocked off the price to account for those issues.

Here's my 2 cents based on culling through 60+ listings on autotrader, cargurus, Craigslist, Mud, and BaT. I only included 2003-2007 100 series (because that's what I was interested in), and didn't include LX 470's. Modelled mileage, rust (as a function of selling location, upper mid-west/NE v others - crude I know), modded v stock (based on pictures, and "modded" varies widely as you might expect), seller type (private v dealer), and listing source. Mileage and rust were significant, mods were margininally significant, and seller type and listing were not. 95% prediction bands on individual rigs shown on simple linear regression. Predictors based on a more inclusive model.

Have at it...

Would love to get your guy's opinion. I'm looking at a 2005 Lexus LX470 with ~200K miles.
A local chevy dealer got it in on trade on Monday and had it listed for $14,000. I went to go look at it Wednesday night and was able to negotiate the price down to $12,800 but wasn't able to secure the funds before the dealership closed. I paid a $500 deposit to secure the vehicle and went back the next day.

I should have run a carfax prior to negotiating the price. The truck has been involved in two minor frontal accidents.
The truck was in Texas until 2012 and then Nevada until 2018. The truck has virtually no rust, which is hard to find in my state.

I got a PPI done at the Lexus dealer and there are a few issues with the truck.
- Key likely has a dead battery. Doesn't lock or unlock the vehicle
- Both drivers side doors need a new door lock actuator
- The drivers side headlight is missing the HID bulb (was told it was a ~$200 bulb) and headlight cover (was told it is hard to find the cover by itself. May need to purchase an entire headlight assembly).
- Leaking front diff. Tech told me that it looked to be leaking from the housing and will most likely need to be resealed
- Leaking front diff. Tech mentioned that it seemed to be coming from the drain plug
- Power steering fluid leak. Tech said it would take more time to diagnose the exact cause but it could be the high-pressure steering pump or lines. Expensive parts
- Will need front tires relatively soon
- The rotors are pretty warped. The truck shakes during medium to heavy braking.

The service advisor said worst-case scenario I'm looking at $3K-$5K to fix everything at an independent shop.

It's definitely not a perfect truck. The lack of rust makes me want to pull the trigger. Thoughts?

I don't know what budget you're dealing with, but a few things - first, I'd wait for what would seem to be a better truck.

A battery in the key is easy. More likely, it's not the master key.

If the vehicle "truly" had an HID bulb, those are aftermarket lights. More likely it's a halogen bulb because the LX's have the projector housing. I'm guessing the tech didn't know the difference.

$3k - $5k is a lot. You could spend $17k and get a far better truck.

Lightning Taco- I’d say that’s a fine viable Land cruiser that can be excellent. Keep in mind there will be more expenses than what you have in front of you. Find a local mechanic, read hear on mud... and you can resolve many of those issues. The price is ok. I got my 05 (Early build Araco) no vvti, tho 5 speed of course. I bought it with 201k miles and now have 254k. Around these miles, Oem items like heater Ts, radiator, starter? , Brake booster system, axles, front end, bushings, 02 sensors, cats, gaskets...... and more can go. Ask me how I know.
Replace some of those items with the additional items you need ! to replace and you have a serious parts cost, along with mechanics bill. I’d definitely have to suggest getting price lower on dealer (That should be fun). The dealer is trained like a attorney at the Dealership, they are there not to assist you making a deal. Yet you have many tools to negotiate.
It’s a good looking, rust free 100. Yet it’s going to cost you. You can find something better cared for. Surprised someone let a vehicle get that far from maintenance. Anyhow ,I hope this opinion of my 2 cents is worth reading.

Cars&Bids has a nice Black '07 LC in NC on the block with three days to go. Private owner sale after a dealer purchase. I just added to the Clasifieds.

Cheers mates,

Undercarriage pictures? Rust free I’d say $11k is fair.

Looking at getting my first LX470. Been doing a lot of research on the forums about what to look for and going to check these two out in person this week. I'm going to check for rust issues, do the run-thru on the slee off-road inspection from the 100 forum on here, and do the globe test on the tan 2000 LX470. It looks like the tan 2000 with 193k miles might of been taken care of better based on the pics/carfax and the bronze 2000 might have some rust issues since it has an undercoating and is from up north but, it has lower miles at 125k. Overall, im looking mostly just to drive this car on the beach and take up to the mountains for skiing/camping. I know its hard to give a better idea on what might be the better purchase just looking for a little insight from you guys on here since this is my first time. Thank you for the help

Possible great find? What am I missing here? Southern 470 under 190k for 10 grand?

Does look like a steal at first glance. Maybe it's got a blown head gasket they threw stop-leak at?
