Please stay on topic!

Looking at purchasing this truck, what are your thoughts?

2006 Land Cruiser with 81k miles. Garage kept, southern state so no rust.
All maintenance done by the dealer with records, timing belt at 58k miles
White on tan, fully stock with AHC. Interior is clean with no rips or stains.

Seller is asking $26k...too much?
Ended up getting the truck, couldn't be happier :)

Agreed. It's a beautiful rig. If I had the money to throw at it without totally emptying my war chest, I would have bought it. Enjoy!

I just bought a 1999 LX470 with 126k miles on it. Before I say the price I want to preface it so I don't give anyone a heart attack out of jealousy.

It is a salvage/rebuilt title. The reason I saw past that was because it was marked as a salvage title in 1999 due to the car "being driven into water" before it even got to the dealership. Now for a $56,000 car to have more repairs than it is worth, I had to imagine it was a strange situation such as an entire lot flooding (sometimes they will salvage every car on a flooded lot) or maybe that it was stolen or something. Either way, it's been on the road for 20 years so it was worth taking a look at.

It was listed as $6000 but I was able to bargain him down to $5500.

It ran excellently when I got there. It has a handful of minor issues such as a window rolling back down if rolled up with the "Auto" mode, the oil temperature gauge not working (confirmed normal readings with the OBD scanner throughout driving it around and idling), the leather on the bottom part of some seats was torn, and about 10-15 other small projects/expenses. It also needed new suspension as the PPO had taken out AHC and replaced it with cheap autozone shocks and shorter springs in the back. So it did need some work to be back to manageable driving condition. Overall, it has a very clean underbody, ran like a charm, and didn't have any red flags. The owner was very straightforward telling me he had the car only about 2 weeks, disclosing all the problems with it as well as the salvage title, and holding it for me on my word when he had another buyer who had asked to come before me. It does look like it has been in a frontal accident, but from looking all around the frame, nothing looks alarming other than a slightly bent bumper support.

That said, I've had it about a month now. I've replaced the suspension with IronMan Nitro Gas stage 3 suspension. And I've begun chipping away at the small projects as well. I really couldn't be happier. Of course it's possible I missed some massive problem but I do feel like I have gotten away with highway robbery. The first picture below is how it looked when I bought it, and the second is what it looks like now.

To finance new toys, gearing up to sell my Hundy. It's a 2003 with 130k. I am second owner. Timing belt done. A couple parking lot dents, otherwise pretty decent.

Does $25k sound right? Too low? Too high?

Where does miles figure in fellas? Curious on what’s to high-
Imagine you found a Really nice 100, great records and no rust at all, where do ya cut off?
I see a lot of 180-220 k mile 100s , that need some work I bet. Is that as high as ya go ?

* A lot of the fair priced 100s are Lowe miles yet will need a good amount of item done. And some of the more mile 100s have the maintenance done. If the price is rite- where do ya stop at with the higher miles?

It's definitely subjective but I'd go as high as 250-300k miles IF the owner has solid service records AND I'm able to do a PPI with a reputable shop. I don't have a huge budget (or time) for a lot of wrenching playing "maintenance catch-up" so I'd rather pay more up front for theoretically less risk and something close to a turn-key truck. That said, there is currently a wanted ad on here for a 400K+ truck so it's all what you're comfortable with and what you want out of the experience.

We're buying trucks that haven't been built in over a decade and even when they were it was in low volume so at a certain point there is a compromise.

Miles? Color? Year? Features (locker/non-Nav/VVTi/etc.)? Interior condition? Rust? Proximity? Price? Rank them all, try to best decide what your ACTUAL use case is for the vehicle, and then make the call for yourself.

Just to add, there's a great 1999 100 listed in TN that checks all of my boxes and is fairly high mileage (for a normal vehicle - not an LC) at 270k miles. The problem is that the owner wants $16,500 for it and I just can't justify paying that much so I'll keep my 2006 LX with 160k miles that doesn't check all my boxes, but is a known quantity and $1,000 more than what he wants for his truck with nearly 2x the miles.

It depends on maintenance and price. I could easily see myself purchasing a 100 series with 220k + on the odometer, but not at current "market" pricing. People are asking such premiums on the hundred series right now that lower mileage trucks are at a relative discount. Seeing a lot of 200k mile + trucks listed at $20,000 and above. At that price point, I'm likely not going to consider a higher mileage example, or even a lower mileage example without it being in exceptionally good condition, and with more than the requisite maintenance completed.

I'm likely out of the market for another 100 series unless I can find one I like locally, and at what I consider to be a fair price. Otherwise, my next purchase will be a 200 series.

So it my asking price way off base? ( I have a bad habit of doing more buying than selling. ) What is a fair price to ask for this one?

thanks

I have a built 100....”Slee and Arb with lift”. It’s not like some of the rigs yet it’s not just oversized tires. I’ve had 3 cruisers now in last decade. A 40,a 80 and this 100. My cruiser had been a grocery getter for a women and is the cleanest example I’ve ever seen to this day. I really thought it was exactly what I wanted. However it’s not exactly what I needed. A excellent SUV with all the capabilities I should ever use.
What I need is a stock height 100. I’ve been looking and have contemplated selling mine. In this market- a clean exceptionally well maintained cruiser can get some serious money. The only problem is replacing it. It’s freaking crazy to think of spending what some are asking. I can just put it back to stock height and call er a day compared to selling and replacing a 100. I suppose I’ll keep listening to how tall my cruiser is from my better half, and how difficult it is to lift kiddos into it. Or how I don’t need a lifted cruiser to drive daily.
Anyhow- sorry to ramble, yet I really am shocked at what some adds are asking for a slightly maintained 100 with a lot of miles on it. Guess I’ll just keep Cruising on ! Carry on gentleman, good thread.

The asking is not way off because plenty are asking these numbers for lesser vehicles. But if you want to capture that figure, you may wait a while.

Or... you may not wait. Regional markets across the country are different. I'd say yours is considered a no rust truck in your neck of the woods, so plenty interest will come from north of you. But in my Texas region the light signs underneath are a deal killer, at least at that price. I'd say it's a $20k truck in WV. In general 20k is a ceiling that many don't wish to cross unless it's an 06-07.

Just keep your price as is and if it doesn't move then don't be afraid to lower. There are a lot of eyes on the 100 and many sales across the country, so the market is quite efficient.

I appreciate the info - My son has my '06 now, and I understand the attraction to the VVTI engine. I Keep telling him it's time to sell it while the market is hot.
