Images and details are in this Imgur album. Handy since I'm posting this in a few venues.

I can likely make more patch plates for anyone who is interested. They might cost around $30-40. I could look at adding bolt tabs for those who can't weld. Please feel free to copy and/or improve these mods!

GMW (Grasshopper Machine Werks LLC) is my side-business, we do custom design/fab for anything and anyone!

well done!
many questions, much interest!
  • Can you post pictures/metrics of your ground clearance with the stand-down/spacers mods
  • it looks clean and tight with rattle space for the exhaust crossover.
  • I'm curious what clearance loss one gets with these skids, esp with the spacer mods you employed.
  • Is this on an otherwise stock rig or is it lifted, and if so ...
  • what's the lift?
thanks and good work.

You're welcome, and thank you too!

(In order)

I've added two pics of the ground clearances to the album, but here they are:

In the front the skid comes up behind the tow loops and mounts flat against the subframe under the oil pan, so I consider this a 'no performance lost' change.

For the transmission skid, as you noticed, it's as tight to the exhaust as I'd want to run it... so.... it just is what it is! The trans skid is at about the same height as the fuel tank skid, so nothing is really lost as far as ground clearance goes. Perhaps a tiny bit of breakover angle was given up. Still, I'd rather have the skids than an extra 1/2in of breakover!

My GX has a Team FJ suspension, so it's lifted around an inch or so. Comparable mods also worked well on my friend's GX with IronMan suspension which is closer to a 2in lift IIRC. The mods seem to be largely independent of lift.

Hope this helps to clarify!
