Hey guys so I'm curious if any of the 100 series guys cut their front bumper to gain more clearance. Here is what I am talking about, I got the idea from this 4runner:

So I did a little photoshop with the before and after of an idea on my LX470

What do you guys think?

I think you’re on to something. I had been thinking about this as well. Someone cut up their 4th gen 4Runner’s bumper quite a bit and posted it on t4r.org. I liked it but the fender liners on those made it a little tougher in my opinion.

Do it.

Yeah I'm slowly cutting to clear my new wheels and eventually I'll get there with the whole bumper. It needs to be repainted anyway. Let's see if I trust my cutting skills 🤔

When I trimmed mine I used a combo of a razor and a dremel with a (annular cutter?) I think. If I wanted clean lines I think I would tape some thin gauge metal to the bumper To use as a edge guide and just repeatedly go over The bumper with a razor.

I used a dremel to make the cuts and then a metal filer to file it clean. I also has a reciprocating saw that I just bought today.
My experience with that includes cutting off the old ahc shocks..dont ask 😂

I’ve wondered the same thing, so following. Be great if you could post front and side pics when finished!

I've considered doing something similar.

One thing to consider is that there is a thin metal support frame almost on the lower portion of the bumper. I'm sure if you cut enough it could be eliminated, but other than that you'll need to figure out what to do with that.

Good tip I'll take a look at it. I do want to figure out a fender liner type of solution to cover the open space behind the fog lights

I think a key part of this is trimming the edge in something to make it look finished. I think I see some edge guard on the 4runner. Bet it’s similar to this on amazon.

For the fog light solution find some abs plastic. Or kydex would be stronger. Heat and form and bolt on.

I used blue tape to cover the bumper and draw my line. I think I used a jig saw and filed the cuts smooth. It came out clean enough. I could've probably taken more off, but this seemed like a good natural line.

great job! I been wanting to do this since I got 285s. Nice to actually see what it looks like when it is done. How's the strength of the bumper after the cut?

Doesn't change the strength at all. It's just plastic. If anything, it's more rigid since there's less unsupported plastic.
