Just got back from dropping 10 gallons of oil off at wallmart and noticed this new oil from Mobil. The jug claims 15,000 mile oil change intervals with some sort of warrentee.

Anyone heard about this stuff? I did do a search and came up empty.

Saw some for the first time today in wile picking up some 0w40, not many ratings on the back, don’t know it has not been tested yet or if it does not meet, if it has a lot of additives it may not be able to meet some standards/tests, was also not in a weight I could use this time of year.

What weights were available at Wally World?

Read a few threads about it over at BITOG nothing conclusive.

hopefully Cary knows more about it

I use Mobil One in all my vehicles. They often go 5,000 or more miles with no change. The 'used oil' looks about like the oil I put in... I believe the stuff can go a lot longer, but then they would sell less oil. So they offer a modified product at a higher price that claims longer life.

Great product in any case.

I think when Mobil 1 Full sythetic oil was first introduced in the UK it was suggested that exstended oil changes up to 25000 mile were possible.. I know that one contact I had about 12 years ago use to onlly change oil when the lab told him to.

There has been a lot of discussion about it at bobistheoilguy.com. The intitial specs show it having better cold weather properties than the T&S 5w-40, with more additives than the 0w-40. It looks like the real deal and may be the trick for those trucks with excessive oil consumption with 0w-40. If you don't plan on going more than 7500-10,000 miles per change and have not consumption issues, there is no point in spending the extra $1 per quart.

Cary, I use the truck and SUV and still have some consumption (quart every 2-3k depending on my driving around town or on the road). What would be the weight to use in the LX450 with these new oils?

Thanks

Andrew

landtank,

Have you tried Amsoil 25,000 mile drain interval oil? That's what I have in my 4skinner, at 12,000 miles I replaced the oil filter but did not drain the oil. The 3.0VZE engine still running smooth after 16000 miles.

I know M1 is readily available but if you want a long drain interval, I would use Amsoil. I'm on my way to NAPA to buy some 5W30 Amsoil syn for the LX.

I've been using M1 since it was introduced, never looked anywhere else. Right now I have a bunch of coupons for M1 so it will be a bit before I change brands. Thanks for the info I'll keep that in ming when It's time to buy more oil.

A BITOG user actually got more life out of Mobil 1 than Amsoil when testing both at regular intervals. 14k vs 18K, the Amsoil could not keep its weight in grade, don’t think I would ever push my cruiser's changes that far, another test in another motor may have went the other way.

I not seen any evidence that any one of the synthetics consistently out performs the others, some motors may like one weight of one brand but nothing that is universal.

You guys heard of Swepco 306 high performance oil? Its non-synthetic, yet the changing interval is 7,000 miles. My roomate works at a Porche/Mercedes/BMW shop and they only use this stuff on all those cars. It is supoosed to outperform Mobile 1 and such, but that is according to the Swepco rep. I am going to try it in my 62 and my 80 to see what happens.

Ok so I was wanting to try out this new oil in my truck since I seem to have a consumption rate of 1 quart every 3000 miles running M1 5w-40 T&S. The problem is the only weights I can find are 5w-30, 10w-30, and 15w-50. No 10w-40 in my area. The saddest thing of all is that WallMart has the best selection out of 3 chain parts stores (kragen, autozone, pepboys) and 2 independent stores (I hate the autopart stores in my area!)

I also have alot of valve noise to the point that I think I'm driving a diesel. Would it be fine for me to run the molasses grade oil in my truck seeing as it never gets below 40 degrees here? One thing though I am planning on going on a death valley trip in 2+ weeks in which I could encounter temps with a low of 10 degrees. (all temps in Fahrenheit)

You can run the 15w-50, but you may just need a valve adjustment. You might try the Redline 10w-40, Monument sells it for $25 gallon. The extended mobil just came out, so give it a month or so before it hits everywhere. If not, Momument can order it if you ask. BTW, I live in Lafayette so I am near you.

Cary, thanks about the Monument heads up. I went there today but didn't ask the guys there anything. It was kinda busy and I just wasn't in the mood to stand in a line. ;)

Yeah you're quite close to me. If you see a lifted white cruiser with grey side moulding driving around give a wave. Also if you ever need any assistance let me know.
