I have bought a Mile Marker 9000lb Hydraulic winch for my project FZJ80. I am running an LMM Duramax in it. I am also looking at purchasing a 12000lb MM hydraulic winch so I can have a winch at both ends.

I have looked at the Muncie clutch pumps and they appear to be a suitable pump.

What pumps have others used? and what are peoples thoughts on the Muncie pumps?

Hooked the MM Hydro to my power steering pump off my saginaw power steering system on my 74 FJ40- works fine.

How do ya'll like the hydraulic winches? When the budget allows and I add a winch I'd like to go hydraulic. For some reason they've always appealed to me, even though most people say the electric is the way to go.

Im switching from electric to hydraulic. I have 3 warn's.. An 8274 , m8000, and a 9000xi something. The speed of the 8274 is nice, but I need more power. I just picked up a Mile Marker 10.5k hydraulic today. No more solenoids or cables to melt. No more smoking batteries. I hear they're super slow.. But I'm already stuck anyway..

that would depends .. if you have a powerfull PS pump .. they are not that bad .. they can be faster than any regular electric 10K or 12K winch

That's exactly how I feel; I'm not racing so speed just isn't that important. I'd rather that the ability to run all day.

The Duramax pump should be fine, it is running hydroboost right? (i'm not familiar with the Duramax series)

With the OEM FZJ-80 powersteering pump and a 12k 2-speed milemarker I think it runs fast enough, faster than not having a winch anyways. To run faster I would think that it would need a much larger reservoir and cooler?

Chelsea PTO drives are pretty popular as well. I'm just starting my research for a PTO Mile Marker winch on my 7.3 Powerstroke, 6 speed. I don't think you can go wrong with either drive.

From what I've found, it's about an extra $1k or so for the parts before you get the winch.
