Ok, I got my bumper mounted a few days ago. And I noticed that the basket would be more user friendly if you could take it on and off without having to have a wrench or socket. Say you got to where you are going and wanted or needed the ladder free. So I went to looking for a threaded knob and I have hit a brick wall trying to find one in the particular thread pitch that is used. I know there are other ways to skin this cat, but I wanted to see if anyone knew of a source for a 7/16-14 knob like this one. I have found every size but that one.

McMaster Carr?

Yep, tried it. Unless I'm missing it. They have 5/16, 3/8,1/2,1/4 but nothing in 7/16.

If you can't find one I am sure you can make one very easily. If you have a welder. Get a 7/16" bolt and some 1/4"x1/4" solid square stock metal and weld a cross on the bolt head. paint black. Prob take 20min. cost a few bucks. Won't look as nice as a manufactured piece but would work the same.

Ace Hardware has stuff like that.

X2 with making your own. you can weld straight stock across the head of the bolt. simple and effective. If thats going to be in the elements and holding any kind of weight i think your better off making your own. I like those kinds of thread knobs for ease of use but Ive had trouble in the past with the plastic breaking.

Thought I would post how I resolved this. I realize I'm probably the only one with an issue on how the basket mounts but might give someone else an idea.

Bought a stainless bolt that was 1/2 longer than supplied. My neighbor has a water jet shop and is my go to guru when I need oddball stuff. He came up with this idea and it works great. Cut out a handle and tapped it, and backed it up with a nut. Tightens down hard and can be removed at will. I realize this is not the cheapest route to go, but I like clean and finished looking stuff.

Flyboy, did Sean weld a nut onto the basket so that all you have to do is run a bolt through the ladder mount? I have one of his bumpers also. I think it's the design just before this latest model he's making. My basket attaches with nuts and bolts. I have to run a bolt with a washer on it through the basket, then through the bracket on the ladder, then I use another washer and bolt to secure it all together.

mine just has one bolt through the back of the basket into the ladder that is tapped.

same as mine. built in threads. I like this approach though. Daily driving- I leave it off. but, camping trips- it will go on.
