Already tried them rosco! Them and about 5 other places. Then again i think ill try them again i think they did 200mm bolts in a m10 which would suit for a 1inch lift but i did need 220 for the 2inch.

Hey Graham,

Have you got a new converter yet? I love converters....:)

Here is my set up. 24V dual batts. Run the engel for a week.

Starters

To Redarc

To Aux Batts

Monitor the state of charge through this

Convert it to 12V from this

So I can use stuff like this

I run every thing off the converter. Stereo, CB,Fridge, Water Pump for Glind, Reverse/Camp Light, 12V plugs etc...

Works good.

The previous owner has wired the stereo between the 24V starters and I found that just before the battries !@#%! themselves. The way it is now there isnt much running of the starters. Just lights.

You can buy kits but I decided to do a custom job on mine. Cost more but I have exactly what I want.

Cheers

Gav.

Wow great setup! Your exactly the man i want to talk to. I have actually been asking questions on another forum about convertor setups and how i should wire mine as i havnt got a clue. Yes i did have a convertor a pretty good one a redarc 30A continuous which worked fine but i drove a pretty deep water crossing and flooded it. I now have a 20A continuous 25amp peak one which seems ok. I started taking the old one out and the wiring was a mess and i couldnt trace back what the previous owner was doing so i think ill just start again.I want to run my cd player, uhf radio and 1x 12v cigarette lighter for small stuff like mp3 player etc

Do you mind explaining/drawing me up a quick wiring diagram because i cant find ANYTHING on the whole internet. I also have one of these things from the previous setup

Oh and also where and how much does it cost for one of those electronic voltage displays that would be very handy because i think mine are unbalanced most of the time.

Cheers mate

Hi mate,

My converter is running off the aux batts but you will be able to use yours off your starting batteries. Take power from the + and - terminals that are the furthest apart. If you have anything coming off the battery terminals in between these you will fry your batteries. If you have a multi-meter use it to check the volts on your batteries. Check them indivdually as 2 12v batteries and then as a 24v battery. The difference in volts between the 2 12v batteries should be minimal. It is +/- 0.1 volts on mine. I check mine once a week cause of the probs I've had in the past. There all good now but I dont want to buy anymore batteries for a while so I check'em

It should be easy to wire. Make sure you put in a fuse. I put in a 15 amp and my converter has a built in fuse as well. Might be a bit of over kill but I would hate the cruiser to burn to the ground. I have run wires through to the cabin off the staring batteries through where the aircon pipes go, they come out at the top of the passenger foot well. I put a piece of coathanger through the hole with a loop in it and pulled the wires through. Much easier. 20 amp continuous should be plenty for what your running.

You have accessories and power wires on you stereo and/or cb , yellow and red I think. I wired these both into the power from the converter. I took me a while to work it out. It wont work if you dont. The only drawback it that the memory wont work on the stereo, unless you leave the converter on all the time, so everytme you turn it on you'll have to eq it. I wouldn't leave the converter on all the time, I just dont trust it. Dont want fires.

Where to mount it? Get it up high. I've got a cargo barrier so I'm gonna mount it on that, up high, just behind the passenger seat so I can switch it on and off without to much mucking around. At the moment its behind the centre console on the ground.

Knocked up this diagram today. Hope it helps.

Tomorrow I'm doing the front diff. I think I need a 12mm drill bit, can you remember what u used? Cant wait to stop those tyres rubbing. I've been doing 10 point turns all week.:o

Cheers mate, if you have any other questions let me know. Its good to find someone doing similar mods so we can trade info. Gotta love 24V tho. Less current draw so your electrical stuff will run heaps longer on the same power. Much more efficient.

Gav.

hey thanks gav. Is it similar without the aux batteries? And how do you wire in multiple accesories to the single outlet from the convertor? Let me know how your diff relocation goes. Yes i agree its very handy having somone interested in similar mods. I am thinking of mounting my convertor on my dash so i can easily turn it on and off and it is nice and high up. Just not sure about the heat from the sun if i leave it outside. The other possibility is on the rasied platform on the floor inbetween the seats but its not so high up then. I did my BL last night 2inchs it looks tall! Ill post details next post.

I did my body lift last night. Spent half the day deciding 1inch or 2inch and the number of ways i could do it but i decided to just do the extra few things required for the 2inch and have done with it. I think all rubbing apart from the rear wheels on the chassis is gone. And it actually looks like the tyres fit now.

I knew 1inch BL required no modification of the fan shroud, so for 2inch i decided to move the shroud down 1inch and so far so good no sounds of smashing fan blades. I just took the shroud off (mission) and drilled each hole 1inch down, i also had to cut out some holes for the pipework in the way below the radiator.

P111208_2109.jpg

This is how it looks fitted but i will cover the hole with some angle iron riveted to the shroud to keep the air flow as normal as possible.

P121208_1601.jpg

With the lifted radiator i may be able to squeeze the PTO winch shaft over the crossmember for a much higher winch

P121208_1603.jpg

And here is how she sits now

P121208_160002.jpg

P121208_1558.jpg

From a recent flex test i may need to extend my bumpstops maybe an inch shouldnt be to much trouble and then measure for shocks.

I also think my guards have enough room for 1inch spacers without further cutting. But knowing me ill probably get the 2inch spacers and try deal with it later.

Hi Graham,

I ran a positive and negitive from the converter to behind the dash. I made all my connections to the 12v accessories from this power. I crimped all my connections so they dont come lose.

This is how I split the power.

There are other connectors that I use to join the wires. They are much better than what is in the picture. They are a double ended connector. You just put the wires in each end of the connectors and crimp them with the crimping tool. If you go down to JayCar or similar electical store you will see them in the same spot as you find the connectors in the picture.

I saw the fuse box in one of your pictures. I tried that for a while but found that it was not the best option for me. My converter already has a fuse and auto cut out and if you also put an inline auto fuse on the power coming out you will not have a problem if something shorts out cause one of the fuses will blow before your gear gets fried.

Hope that helps.

The lift looks awesome mate. Mad.

What u got planned next:)

Its been raining the last couple of days and cause I work on the cruiser outside I havent had a chance to do the diff yet. Monday....

Gav.

thanks again gav. ill get onto it soon when i can be bothered! Wiring is not my strongest point

Next mods in consideration are:

-3inch exhaust
-play around with some metal to see if i can make a front and rear bar to suit the body lift. As you can see from one of the photos i may be able to squeeze the PTO winch over the crossmember which would let me run the PTO without to much hinderance to the approach angle.
-Sort out all the gearstick boots to suit the body lift. The pto stick wont even move i think ill have to cut and weld an extension for that to work. The gearstick needs minor boot cutting and the low range needs major boot cutting.
-move front diff forward more
-either wheel spacers or better offset rims (-50?)
-shocks when i measure up for them, need to make a ramp

Then i should be happy

What about you?

Hey Mate,

The lift looks sweeeeeet!

Changed my username cause I have a 74 not 73.

I moved the diff today. Went and got some mad looking drill bits. 17.5 and 15.5 mm bits to drill the holes. Also killed a drill:crybaby: so had to go and but a new one. New hitachi which is pretty sweet:)

I now no longer have any tyre rub and get to keep the 2" spacers.

Dont know about your rig but the steering on mine seems to want to pull to the left a bit. Apparently its something that these cruisers and others can do. I've had wheel alignments done but it still does it. I was at the 4x4 shop the other day and the mechanic showed me some swivel hub bearings that were offset. They adjust the castor on the front wheels and fixes the problem. I just did my front hubs and don't really feel like opening them up again at the moment. Wish I knew about them before.

No more mods for me right now but I'm gonna reinstall my shelf in the back and put a hatch in it to access the batteries if there are any probs with them. I'll be able to get to them without pulling the whole shelf out. Also gotta wire my ciggie socket to 12v in the front so so the girlfriend can recharge her camera and phone.

Future mods are:
- Extended shackles and new shocks all round.
- New window frame (Fiberglass) and windscreen as the frame is rusty and the screen got a bad crack from a rock.
- Love to get a rooftop tent.
- Replace swivel bearings before I get new tyres.

My cruiser is more set up for touring but I also want it to have off road abilty so that I'm not going to get stuck on the road to nowhere. I reckon I'm getting closer to that goal. I'm heading off to Canunda (SE South Australia) over Jan to kick back on the beach for a week or so. Should be pretty cool. Got the fridge and the shower so me and the girl should be pretty comfortable.

Cheers Graham that 2" lift looks mad mate. I'd be interested to see what you do with the PTO stick as I haven't had a chance to do anything to mine yet. I haven't even really used the PTO yet. The only times was when I wound the cable back on tight when I bought the cruiser and on a mates farm I tried to pull down an old tree for firewood. That was funny the cruiser was just getting dragged towards the tree. Jumped on the brakes to try and stop it but no go. The winch pulled the cruiser a trailler and about a ton or more of firewood and nothing broke, not even the shear pin. Tough gear.

Again mate, that rig of your looks s*** hot.
Good work mate.

Gav.

hey mate i was wandering what was going on because i saw your car in another thread i thought someone stolen your photo hah. Good to hear the diff relocation fixed the problem. Glad i made the suggestion! Did you have any problems doing it? Im going to have a play with the winch a bit this week, the more i look at my truck it think it definatley needs something there and it would be handy to have my winch back on. Not sure either to get my rims flipped or wheel spacers.

It never ends but i love it

Hey mate,

No probs with the diff move. Maybe the collars on the drag link and tie rod are just nicking each other. Seem to have a little clunk in the steering when I first move the steering wheel after its been parked a while. Not really an issue I think but I'll have a look on the weekend.
No real probs doing it thanks to your instructions!!! I did bust a drill but it was a cheapy and gave me reason to upgrade to something better.

I had a little look at the PTO shifter. Looks like there is a metal bracket, over the rubber boots, that bolts to the body. Might try and grind the bracket and body where the shifter hits and put it back together and see if I can get the PTO into gear. I hate to need it and not be able to use it.

How have the body lift mods been going? Be good to see some picks of your front and rear bars when you get onto them.

Cheers Graham.

Gav.

Hey gav yeah i got it all sorted. I dont know what im going to do about the PTO shaft because it doesnt even start moving looks like ill have to do major mods to that one. Yes you can cut the metal bracket holding the boots but it just wont keep as much noise/ muck out as the standard one. Thats what i had to do to the low range lever i cut the bracket all the way to the body. Pretty messy but its all covered by rubber and carpet, at least it works now.

I will keep you posted glad the relocation went well.

Just a few pics of some wheeling recently

hey mate awesome beach pic.

What beach are you on there? I'm about 500kms from a decent 4wd and fishing beach. I'm heading down to Canunda for a week in January:)

How'd you go with the fishing?
The BJ looks sweet as!!!!

Gav.

Hey gav thanks! That beach is wilbinga only about half an hour down the road i am very lucky i have some awesome spots to fish locally. There is a spot about 10mins down the road but has recently started being developed for housing so we cannot go there... a shame really it is an awesome spot with massive bowls and hill climbs and long beach runs but now its got a sewage pipe running right through the middle. It makes you laugh when people complain at 4wd's impact on the environment when housing developers flatten everything and nobody complains.

500k's thats a bit of a mission i sometimes forget what its like living away from the beach. Only this morning i was kayaking in the marina and then out onto the ocean...awesome!

Hah that nights fishing was a no go... to be honest im not much of a fisherman i just enjoy opening a coopers sitting in that chair with a line out and watching the sunset... getting a fish is just a bonus. Where is canunda? Any good fishing there? have fun!

LOL I just looked at the 2nd pic and it looks like my dog is reversing up hahah

Another trip to the powerlines! Great day out heres some pics.. Ill try make a short movie of all the vids taken tonight... keep posted!
