Bit more of an update, and a few questions i need answering....

Did the front flares this arvo. Only needed 40mm. Looks kinda neat i rekon, should get onto the back soon.

Before i forget, can anyone provide me with pictures of 70series guards chopped. Or any other guards chopped.

Now i need some opinions... Where do you think i should put the spare? I have just enough room on the back. But would need to reinforce the mount, or make a whole new one.. dont have the skills for that just yet. There is also some space on top of the drawers, but would take a crap load of valuable camping space... not as if i have loads to begin with. And then what about the jack?

With your spare mounted off centre from the mount like that are you able to swing the door open? On my car with a 33'' on the back when I open the door the tyre hits the tail light. With a 35'' on the stock mount I cant open either door lol Really should mod it soon.

I'll find you some pics of guard chops

one banana mod.
flip the tire carrier upside down, ream the holes 1/2" towards the door(tire carrier moves 1/2" away from the peep door) and you can mount 36" tire...

cheers for that hulsty. Helps heaps. And you have given me something to think about with the tyre hitting the brake light... didnt even consider that

And crushers, i dont know what you mean by that? By any chance have you got a pic?

take a look at your tire carrier
it is held on by 4 bolts
these are interchangeable, as in, if you flip the tire carrier upside down the holes still line up.
there is an angle to the tire carrier, when you flip it this angle becomes more pronounced and moves the bottom of the tire away from the door/bumper
if you just flip th etire carrier then a 35" tire will still stop the small dorr from opening so you need to move the carrier away from the small door. ream the holes and move it over...

OK got it. Just never heard the expression 'ream'. But i get it now.

I would still need to take the chrome bumper off as it still hits the bottom. The left wagon door only just hits... i am getting a barely legal tread 35inch tyre for my spare so hopefully i dont need to drill the holes to the right. I might put a washer between the rim and the mount because it is pressed hard against the door.

Thanks for the info though you sure do know lots about landcruisers

when yuou say "take the chrome off since it hits" it hits what? the tire? the door?

yes, a spacer between the rim and the carrier is a good idea, that is what i do.

when you play and modify cruisers 8 hours a day for decades then you pick up a few things along the way.

Some pics of mine with a 35'' on the back, being a simex 35'' is actually close to 36''. You can see how it would hit the light when opened. I cant open the little door, tyre is about 10mm to big, and even with my own rear bar it still sits on it. Not sure what to do, mod the bracket on the door or make a swing away.

This is where it hits, taking the chrome bumper off and just leaving the rear bare will let it fit. At least untill i build a rear bar.

This is where the washers would come in handy, although the closer to the body the less likely it is going to snap off

Yeah hulsty your right your simex must be a little bigger than my mtrs, the tyre just clears the brake light.
P240908_1511.jpg

It can open this much

Lol, yes hulsty you should really try fix the problem

when you flip the tire carrier the angle changes... give it a try and see...
i use over sized nuts instead of washers to space the tire away from the door...

It is flipped, and the angle points it slightly upwards... Hmmm it still hits.

It wouldnt even reach the bolts with the mount the right way up

what do you mean it wouldn't even reach the bolts? you mean the rim has too much off set to reach the studs of the wheel carrier?

personally, i like the 7* series with no rear bumper...

I agree, looked good without a rear bumper, but you still need to fab up a decent recovery hook and spread the load across the rear of the chassis.

For practicality its a good thing I reckon to have a rear bar, can integrate a good strong recovery point, will have rear end protection and when I cut my quarters off I can extended it to the wheel wells.

i find this post interesting, after years of super hard tugs on the 4 bolt pinto hitch i have yet to see the rear cross member twist or bend...

are you boys using kenetic straps and ropes or cable and chains?
