Well I have had 'Eliza' since Nov of 2007. She has served me very, very well for 8 years. With over 150k on her and more mods then I can remember, it might be time to move on.

It is not her heart 'engine' that is old, it is her 'body'. She breaks much easier now then she ever did. Another broken axel last week. I think maybe, I run her as hard as I did when I first got her and to be honest, she can't handle it like she used to. Without a warranty to cover things, I find myself hesitant to do the things I want to do, knowing that a false move can cost me 1000's of dollars (and it usually does).

She has been here with the 4 kids as they have grown. Her leather can't handle the stress anymore. Seats are ripping, welds are straining. She is creaking at every movement.

I think it may be time to move on......<sniff><sniff>

<sad music playing>

BTW, I will be keeping 'Sylvia', the 1986 FJ60. She is still a work in progress and is much cheaper to fix :)

Glad to see you post again. I thought you had done disappeared.

I'd love a comprehensive list of what has failed.

What's next?

I was looking at a Tundra Platinum. Adding all the TRD Pro stuff to it. Plus want to add a supercharger to it. That way I can have the nice 'features' with the functionality for off road. I am wanting to use a little more speed when off road. I could never take my 200 fast off road. Just too damn heavy.
Also looking at....don't hate me..... Raptor. Drove in one. Was beyond amazing. The issue I have with the tundra, to be honest, is that it feels like I am driving a house. I have a feeling of being 'disconnected' from the road. Doesn't 'grab' the road the way I thought/wanted it to. Hope that makes sense.

Well the axel twice. Seats are separating. Cannot stay aligned no matter how I drive it. (That could be a result of the different suspension I have installed over the years). Keep having sensor issues, even after I have replaced them all. Exhaust and emission codes keep being tripped for some reason. That is all I can think about off the top of my head that are even still issues.

Well, if you are feeling the urge for off-road speed, both of those choices will work. I just suspect one of them will be working longer.

Any long term comments on the aux tank? Still feel worth it?

This is interesting to me coming from an 100 series owner who eventually would like to upgrade to this club.

Are things really creaking and breaking constantly already after 8 years and 150k?

I am not an expert on the 200 series but sounds to me like you're describing a Ford. I've never been hesitant to do anything in my cruiser!

Yes I feel it was worth it...beyond a shadow of a doubt. One of the small issues with it was that it randomly set off a code. Where I am in the california desert can get VERY hot. When it does get that hot, with 46 additional gallons, any gases are a little much for a system that supposedly handles 19 gallons. Otherwise it has been flawless. I never filled it more than 40 gallons.

Ok let me clarify. I am hard on her. VERY hard. The first weekend I had her, I went into the desert like baja style flying. I always tried to run her like she was meant for baja. So saying that, I don't think she is having issues that I have not had a hand in contributing to.
Plus lets be honest, any 'fixes' are not covered by a warranty at this point, and she isn't cheap to fix :)

She has been very reliable over the years. I would not hesitate to get another, if I was in need of one.

(*&$#%(*$&#% :) I guessed as much. It's proving harder and harder to avoid getting one. It was codes and limp mode that kept me away, and we travel is similar desert country I'm guessing, but I think the benefit outweighs the risk. Thanks again for documenting the install back then.

I would do it again without a second thought. Is longranger not even willing to send you one if you wire the money for the tank and ups? That is what I had to do.

Raptor huh?

Where I live it seems prerequisite to sport a goatee if you're driving a Raptor.

Lol. I know the feeling. I actually am very impressed with it....the mechanical abilities. The interior is pathetic. Feels like a cheap suit.

If the emission warnings set it into limp mode could the urd 02 simulator work to clear it up?

Likewise, good to know you're still out there rolling in your 200. Some of your early decisions guided me.

You drive a Raptor for 1 year like you have driven your 200 for 8 and you'll soon remember all the reasons you got your 200. It wont just be axles you'll be picking up off the trail. It will be doors and panels and windows too. Look good for sure but just not the same construction quality.

I think you need to hold out for the 300. Somebody has to blaze the mod trail after all. :)

btw: I assume you blew front axles? If so, did you ever drop your diff or install lockers?

I just use my obdII bluetooth module which is always plugged in and Dashcommander to clear it up. Takes 5 seconds.

I've come back to this thread and considered my own path through your eyes several times now. I'm with Bill on the duty cycle of a raptor. It seems like it may run dog years as compared to a 200? No one else knows the full state of mind but you of course but I really feel like I'd throw on:

Escape Gear Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Seat Covers | Equipt Expedition Outfitters

Then a crazy wrap to change things up in terms of how I perceived the 200

A few modifiations you've wanted to do but put off maybe.

Stay ahead of the preventative maintenance by one big effort with a bunch of parts - you can rationalize this to yourself as amortized over the years, really, even if it's surprising.

Maybe this will make you happy and suit the family for a few more cycles until the X00 comes out?

She's a beauty. I am thinking the same thing about the raptor.
