I have been contemplating selling my FJ60 in the next couple of months to get a newer more comfortable wagon. I don't want something that has been highly modified etc, but I do want to wheel it on occasion...

What can/should I get for $8-13K? (I like Kelly's white 100)
What should I look for? I've read some of the mid 90's have locking TC & axles.
What advantages do the hundies have?

Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Luis

Been very happy with the Hundy even though it spends it's time at the cabin. Show up, hop in and go, dependable and comfortable. Gonna sell the tundra and am looking for a late model 100 for my DD

Be patient and you can do real good for 10k on the early years. Find a housewife grocery hauler and your off to the races.

100's rock. Best road trip cruiser I have ever owned.

Thanks Dave. While I love my 60, I need something easier on my back and quieter to my ears.

Kelly, why don't you just keep the Tundra at your cabin and sell me your Hundy. You'll need the truck to haul wood, supplies, etc, etc to the cabin :)

thats why you drive an 80  I know you dont own your 80 for wheeling purposes, that thing has never been offroad since you've owned it :flipoff2:

I own my 80 because it's a diesel and gets considerably better mileage than my 100 did. It's cool, too.

Remember this?

100's are good offroaders as well.

doh! i thought we did that in your 100. guess I should have asked Fred :)

you need to be poked to get that diff swapped though, Katemcy is coming up and you should wheel this year

back on track, my personal favorite are the 93-94s. Less crap. Lockers are ideal, but not necessary unless you plan on wheeling semi-hard core. 95-97s add more emissions and are OBD2. And these have more head gasket failures than the 93-94s it seems, but I have no data to back that up. They seem to run cooler though. Did you see slee's buyer guide for the 80s? check that out. And most will have 200K or more, under that seems to be hard to find.

For 100s, 98 and 99 had a oem rear locker, if you look at those, try to get one. I think they stopped in 2000. Outside of that they are great trucks. Ive seen many with 250K on them, so the engine is good.

On a side note, Henry has been thinking of selling his, but his would be bit more than your top. But it has some goodies, maybe he would take less if they were not included??? He doesnt wheel much though. I only know 1 time when we went a few years back to Hidden Falls.

Thanks Jason,

I will look at Slee's buyer's guide... Also, who is Henry? what truck does he drive & might sell?

sorry, thought you knew Henry. his handle is exiled. I'll email him and tell him about this thread. its a very nice truck and well maintained.

I've only heard about him... I knew he had the princess while Dave later owned. Thanks.

How much are you selling your 60 for?

Jeff,

Not sure yet. I need to take it to Jarrel's for exhaust work, then work out a few bugs to determine how much to ask.

Would you believe we had a ton of 105s (solid front axle) with adjustable suspension and a turbo diesel/5 speed issued to us. The spare tire swing is standard with ambulance doors. Too bad the US government decided to give the entire fleet away rather than sell it to us. If they have them in Latin America, a short trip might be worth taking. Just saying....

Man, I'd would really love to have something like this.

As far as the gov't giving them away, that sucks. The government should have given them (free) to those of you who put your life on the line for us.

Have a 91, but it's just a daily cruiser.

Wife says to get the 40 and the 62 (and the 65 mustang) off the west coast, so I guess there is a road trip coming up end of Nov.

luis- check with Edwin, he may be selling his locked 80. Its nice too with a brand new engine!

I love my 80. Bought it with just over 200K on it a few years ago and has around 223K now. I've driven 100s and those are nice. I'll probably go that route once the 80 bites the dust, which hopefully will NOT be soon. ;)
