Anyone with midnight black metallic have clear coat chipping issues that you've cleaned up? What do you recommend? My 2016 has a few spots that started with a minor ding or scratch but now they are expanding, the largest being nearly the size of my fist. These are all on the rear bumper cover. Thanks for any help.
I don't think there is really a good "touchup" method for peeling clearcoat that looks decent. Though someone else may have a better idea. My suggestion would be to have the bumper re-painted and then get PPF for the roof, hood, fenders, etc. to make sure it doesn't happen on more expensive bits.
I have Mercury Metallic (silver) and my truck had several spots of missing paint all together (flaked off, primer exposed below). No idea what caused it, happened before my time. I just filled them in with Toyota touch up paint and it sill looks pretty bad lol.
I've done some very reasonable home repairs before using aerosol paints from these guys. The key is in the prep. Get it perfect, apply primer, paint, clear. Get some really high grit sand paper.
Though, nothing out of a can will last as long a a repair by a shop. Further, the delalmination you're seeing will likely crop up elsewhere, sorry to say, so you may be up against a game of whack-a-mole.
interesting. Any thoughts on what caused this? I have a black 2015 200 that spends a lot of the year sitting in the unshaded hot sun of Arizona and Mexico. No issues after 10 years and i’m looking to keep it that way with clay bar, cleanser wax, and ceramic coat once a year.
