Memorial Day Wrenching and Project catch-up (1 Viewer)

My 80 got the following attention courtesy a few packages from CDan last week (all OEM unless noted):

1. New Air intake hose
2. All new (non-formed) vac lines
3. New throttle body gasket after remove and cleaning
4. New valve cover gasket and new bolt to replace broken one
5. New plug sleeves
6. New plugs
7. New valve cover hoses x2
8. New PCV
9. New T-stat and gasket
10. New plug wires
11. New rotor and dist. cap
12. New blue fan clutch
13. New fuel filter
14. New belts
15. New oil (mobile 1 5w40 diesel truck), oil filter, and air filter
16. New tie rod ends x4
17. New tie rod and drag link/relay rod courtesy Christo Slee
18. New shims for sun roof to better adjust closed position

And some things that got started but not finished:

1. Blue Sea 12 and 6 fuse sub panels (one under PS seat ala christo) and one either in rear cargo area or under hood.
2. 12v power points in center console x2 and rear cargo x3
3. Interior winch controls courtesy christo
4. New hand throttle to replace damaged one (courtesy remote start installers )
5. Set timing to adjust for all new stuff above (still can't figure this out)
6. Adjust throttle cable to get better throttle response from new cable (courtesy CDan)
7. New auto tranny shift knob to replace factory one with worn leather
8. New steering wheel to replace very worn factory wheel (got the wrong wheel sent from cruiserparts.net after waiting 5-6 months).

Of course, most of this was not done solely by me as I'm still recovering from rotator cuff surgery and my dominate right arm is nearly worthless - but it got done nonetheless!

Aha! So it's fixed now. I can sleep better.

Nice dude. Did you do it yourself or farm it out?

I scored some serious drill bits from the machine shop at work. The main ticket was the Titanium coated 7/16 left hand drill bit. The bit grabbed what was left of the bolt and spun it out.


I think the two times a day dose of Kroil (sp?) really helped too.

Lower rear shock bolt?

Those are a common problem, even on Southwest trucks.

Yup. When Chitown40 and I swapped springs the head spun off of the bolt. My guess is over-torque, the passenger side came out with no issues.

I don't think it is over-torque because there are waaaay too many that have busted that bolt and most have been when removing the original shocks. Mine was busted at some point in time and replaced with another bolt (wrong head size). I replaced it with a factory bolt when the L-shocks went on a few years ago.

A busted bolt is a bitch to get out of there. Good job with the left-handed bit. I'll remember that in case I need it some day.

Did an emergency birfield job on a 1993 80. Totally grenaded long side--hub/spindle/bearings/caliper/rotor/birf--toast--welded and melted together.

It was fun indeed. Completely rebuilt and running smooth as of this AM.
