i just put a deposit on a SR5 coming in may sometime (75k out the door!!!!) I will drive it when it gets here but more and more looking like a bad decision. Who would have thought a 2018-20 200 series would be both the reliable choice and the value proposition."But wait! There is more German-ness going on here..."
Awesome.
I bet they will sell a ton of these. I also bet they are reliable, especially compared to the competition.
The 3.5L TT is the same engine family as in the Lexus LS500 and 300 platform. The hybrid is in the Lexus LS500h and the forthcoming LX750h. It has proven reliable.when you say reliable there must be some accounting for complexity and points of failure in the equation. This vehicle has several layers of potential failure points more than a 100 or 200 series Land Cruiser. This is a purely Toyota USA endeavor and I am guessing (hoping) Toyota Japan doesn't want anything to do with this coming out of their factories.
but yes I agree they will likely sell everyone they make.
I guess Japan is on board with it then. Still interesting they didn’t put this hybrid drivetrain in the 300 series but did put it in the tundra and sequoia which are on the same platform. The 3.5L TT is the same engine as in the Lexus LS500 and 300 platform. I think because LC/LX has FULL TIME 4wd. So the hybrid produces too much power for the Torsen to handle.I guess Japan is on board with it then. Still interesting they didn’t put this hybrid drivetrain in the 300 series but did put it in the tundra and sequoia which are on the same platform.
In either case reliability is still unproven, as all those cars listed are new and very limited production numbers.
I guess we’ll see when the LX750h comes out.I think because LC/LX has FULL TIME 4wd. So the hybrid produces too much power for the Torsen to handle.
Thus Tundra and Sequoia have PART TIME 4wd.
Don't mean to hijack your thread OP. The same guy also did an in depth review of the LX600.
I Definitely see the lack of AHC as a pro in the base model. If I were to order an LX600 it would be a base without AHC and with 18” wheels.I wonder if most realize that AHC suspension which has been standard on the LX for so long is not available on the base and premium trim. This could be seen as a pro or con but one can no longer assume "all".

You know my “love” for AHC……..but due to the horrible approach and departure angles of all LX600 trim, you MUST get AHC if you plan on taking it off-road. You have no choice. If i ever make the jump to LX600, then yeah, i would get AHC, even if it is against every grain in my body!I Definitely see the lack of AHC as a pro in the base model.
