I mean if your friend is okaying with dropping $700 to not have to change the heater hoses and tee's themselves I guess this is going to be an expensive vehicle for them to maintain.

Thanks for listing them. FWIW I did search before starting this thread. I have read them except those from 10+ years ago. Most of them is also outside San Jose.

It is not too bad since he is not on MUD :). The total repair quote is $7300, not the highest I have seen from a Lexus dealer. What else can you buy for $7300 that will last another 5-10 years, or longer? My guess on his next big repair is the secondary air pump.

I totally understand :D I also hope someone can give new recommendations on recent discoveries of great mechanics in bay area. There must be some, considering how many Hundys there are in Cali. (Despite the $10/gallon gas, it seems every camper/offroader wants to buy a Hundy these days...) 😂

Michael from Overlandbound has his 80 series serviced at Top Shop Auto in Lafayette. Don't know if they also work on Hundys. If it's indeed a great shop, may be worth towing 100 miles for major repairs.

I had excellent work done by A+ Auto...on Industrial Road in San Carlos, a little south of Holly Street. That said, I haven't been there since moving to Idaho in 2002.

By that parts list, he’s doing more than just the tees. Keep in mind the average shop rate around the Peninsula/South Bay Area is >$220hr
