I've almost completed a 3-speed to 4-speed transmission conversion on my '72 FJ40. From reading MUD, I've learned that i need the longer front shift shaft from a 4-speed transfercase in order for my shift level to work with the 4-speed transmission. I'm looking for either just the shaft (#17 in diagram below) or the entire shift assembly (#16 in diagram) if someone isn't willing to take apart the shift assembly.

i went through that many years ago probably 1975 i had to weld a rod on to the shaft same diameter and cut a slot in it because used parts were pretty rare for a 4 speed .if you have the rod out its easy to do

I was afraid of that. Getting the 4-speed wasn’t that hard. It’s all the additional parts that’s driving me crazy.

Does anyone know the total length of the longer shaft? I could make one up if I had the dimensions (total length and location of the notch)

I just sold a complete 4WD floor shift with both (long and short) shafts included, this customer will need only the short shaft, you could contact him to make a deal on the long shaft that he will not need, his email is Anthony.c.russo2@gmail.com.
