Apologies for the frivolity of this post, but I'm hoping someone here can give some guidance...

Recently I had a run in that required some paint work on my fender flare (moon pearl). It was a small area the body shop initially intended to blend. Through a series of ineptitude a including losing my original flare and then trying to mount a Pathfinder flare , I am now the proud owner of a brand new, very glossy replacement:

So my question: is there ANY way to make that glossy finish more closely match my other faded flares? Or am I stuck either with this or repainting ALL of the flares?

In before: "just take them off, they're useless".

If you care that much, maybe just paint the door 1/2 of that flare & stop there.

It's a slippery slope from there - doing both on that side, or eventually pulling all the rest & spending $1500 getting flares that really just get in the way made 'pretty'.

But I suppose if you have some super rust free, low miled, mainly stock 80 getting it done may be worth it to you.

I have both mine covered in a protective layer of pollen & dirt - so I never see minor crap on mine.

You could go get it dirty & have a beer, then let time let you come to terms with the fact it is what it is.

Scuff the gloss clear and spray with a satin clear so it's not so shiny?

You could literally take them off and paint them in an afternoon. Since they don't match the body anyway, there is no hand wringing involved in that perspective. I taped off and painted a lot of the black trim on my 80 in about 3 hours.

I do...

...but this is excellent advice, for a number of things.

Yup, more beer......

Remove all the flares, paint them off the vehicle (do not paint over the gaskets), then put them back on with new gaskets if available.

800 wet n dry will remove some of the shine. May want to test theory with 1000 grit W & D first?
