How would i go about doing this without getting wined and dined by the lexus dealer? I do not have my old master key but i do have my valet key that i currently use, but its top part is broken and cannot go on a key chain so keeping up with it can be tough. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Mobile locksmith did mine with a new key brain and some master and valet spares. Think it was around $$250 and an hour.

So how do these technical service bulletins work when going to the dealership, are they totally year specific or more model specific, like 98-02 compared to 03-05 and 06-07. Found a bulletin for an 01 lx470 for a key immobilizer issue ECU FLASH REPROGRAMMING PROCESS
Service Bulletin Num : SS00101 - MAR 09, 2001 NHTSA Item Number: 619115
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE. but this is for an 01 and mine is a 2000, I also found this for a 2000 though ENGINE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS
Service Bulletin Num : EL00899 - DEC 10, 1999 NHTSA Item Number: 610101
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT CONTROLLER.

It seems if we can get a reflash a new key through the dealership thatd be best situation on thier own dime.

Normally the bulletins are very precise in the year range applicable. There may be similar issues with other years, but generally the bulletin calls out years with a very specific part changeover that drives the cutoffs. If yours is a 2000 I doubt any dealer would provide the 2001 service on their dime.

Also note, as far as I know, the bulletins in no way reflect whether or not a dealer is obligated to pay for service out of warranty. It's an acknowledgement that an improvement can be made with a new part/service. Safety items may be mandated to be covered, but some bulletins are simply about avoiding certain cleaners, a rattle in the exhaust, a squeak in the brakes, etc...

Check out this thread: LX 470 Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)

It appears the 2000 has the immobilizer bulletin listed.

My understanding is that if you can find someone with techstream and the know-how to reprogram, you can add a new remote to the ECU. People that can and are willing to do that seem very few and far between. The dealer will recommend a new ECU and remote set to the tune of $700-1000.

Given my involvement with keys for these cars I've debated trying to figure out and clearly document the process, but I hesitate because there are probably some potential legal issues with that. Being able to program a key would give you easy access to defeating the security system and stealing a car. :/

if you don't have any master key you need to go to the dealer to get a resead on the immobilizer, you cant program new keys off a valet you need a master to do a program
