my manual choke is froze up ( 1974 fj40) been like that since i got it. Tried to shoot wd-40 in from the front and where the cable goes to the carb.............still froze up any suggestions????

Is the cable froze/rusted up, or is the choke mechanism on the carburetor frozen?

Have you removed the cable from the carburetor and verified the above?

The choke cable on my 71 was not quite frozen, I could pull it out but not push it back in. I removed the cable from the truck, pulled the wire out of the sleeve. I cleaned the wire, lubed the tube put it all back together and it slides smooth both ways.

 don't neglect putting a bit of lube on the wire as you put it back together. You want it to be smooth as a hot knife through butter. Let us know how it goes:D.

well the cable did not go back in the tube , the cable is bent a little on the end, and i need put some LUBE on it as well...:eek:.........will try it in the morning:popcorn:

and maybe cut a little of the cable off as well.:bang:

Have you tried to manually manipulate the choke mechanism on the carburetor?

Does it move freely or is it bound up?

Yes Sir, it moves freely.........

LUBE normally fixes anything that is stuck. If you want put some axle grease on it as well. That will keep it from rusting and binding up in the future. Messy is all.

I would not use anything oil based when you put it back together. Any dust/dirt will gum up the inside of the tube and you will be back where you started. I clean the tube with brake clean and use a liquid graphite spray down the tube before reassembly.
