pretty much the rebuilt parts inside the block were slapped together with the same attention to detail as the paint was.
oh i hope that isn't the case. they use an outside machine shop to do the work (i think) though I couldn't find out who it was. Their ad said they do the work in house and over the years here on mud i couldn't find bad reviews nor online. So i'll reserve judgment for now. I assume they are mud members given the body of work for the community over the years.

Scotchbrite pad should not gouge the metal. Just get the paint off and the metal to a smooth metal finish and you are good to go.
I know sending this engine back is not what you want to hear or do because its going to be a huge pain in the ass, but I would not have confidence in this unit anymore. If they can't take the time to paint the engine properly (which is pretty easy to be fair), doing the rebuild properly (which is pretty hard) seems unlikely. I just worry if you install it and there are issues, it will be harder to get them to take it back or admit fault.

Supposed to have a one yr warranty. If I send it back, I’m back to square one. If I put it in and it doesn’t work I’m back to square one. It probably looked beautiful when they sent it. So I’ll press on and keep everyone posted. The cosmetics, well I’m not pretty either but I run fairly well. Thanks for the feedback.

When man-a-fre was in Simi Valley, their machine shop and builder was Martin Davidson automotive in Reseda California. But since moving to Nevada I have no idea.

When Martin was doing the rebuilds they were top-notch. I have one of his 2Fs in my 60 .

Careful use of brand new single edge razor blades works well to remove paint, being careful not to gouge the metal. They do make plastic versions if you want to play it safe.
