I have a 1984 60-series that I bought early 2024. It came with maintenance records that reflect that a rebuilt 2F engine was installed around the 200k mark. (Current mileage is 279k). I have the serial number for the rebuilt engine. Is there any way to use the serial number to determine the VIN of its original vehicle, or any other information about the history/origin of the engine? Thanks.

Yes. Charts on mud and sor with engine serial numer range and year of production.

No way that I know to translate that to VIN, though if serial number is same year as truck, original engine was prolly rebuilt. Post the serial

Serial is 2F- 847163

Whats the production date of your 60? That engine serial lines up with Jun-Sept 84 range.

No way to know for us to know for sure if it’s the *original* engine but we can make a educated guess

There's also a production date code on the side of the block:

YR MM DD

7-01-15

1977 or 1987, Jan 15
