Did a search for info on the 2f hi-po replacement motor and nothing turned up. Have been researching the diesel engine swap but I would like to have the 60 running sooner. Anyone know of anything regarding these motors, I would really like to have this thing on the road soon. Thanks! :bounce2: :bounce2:

My 2F is getting overhauled as I type...I was just where you are. I wouldn't do the Man-A-Fre. I heard they screw you on the cores (say your head is cracked and not get any money back)...besides that's some $ to ship it to you and the core back. After many long hours of research...I desided to go with a local guy that has experience with jeeps & cruisers. I got a good warranty...and he is right down the road if anything goes wrong. You don't have to worry about getting it from one place and another place installing it...warranty with two sources is a biatch.

Oh...and don't believe that crap about the Man-a-fre engine peeling out and getting 18 miles a gallon on their website...that's a load of :censor:

my 2 cents is to go local if at all possible (the 2F is a pretty simple engine)...just make sure they know the cruiser...Good luck man...

I mean that the best option is doing a complete rebuild from 0 , in this form u know taht you engine is done, have a new engine, with good parts and good asembled.

Buy a used engine is a lotery .. you can win .. you can lose .. !

If your head was cracked, it would a partial core refund. We would still give you the money back for the bottom end if it was good. Think of the term core for a second, if it is not rebuildable, it is no longer a core, it is trash. If we rebuilt a core that was cracked, dont you think the next guy who bought it would be pretty upset? Shipping is a hassle yes, but some people prefer the satisfaction of knowing a reputable cruiser shop did the rebuild. I do believe the crap about it peeling out and getting 18 mpg, the cruiser we did it one was for the western sales manager for ARB, and he will tell you the same. Keep in mind that we added other performance parts to it; headers, dui dist., weber, etc. Plus we know how to tune a vehicle, maybe you should learn too. Steve.

I put one of Manny's HiPo 2F's in my 40. It hasn't been very long yet, I did it in January. But so far I've been very happy with it. The mileage has not hit 18 MPG yet, but it's been around 15. I only have about 1000 miles on it so far, so it's just getting broken in at this point.

Certainly gives me a lot more power than I had before. I also have a number of bells and whistles added - headers, DUI, oil cooler, Weber 38.

It was pricey, all things considered - but I knew that, and wanted it done by someone who knew WTF they were doing. Haven't had any issues so far.

I have no first hand experience with MAF motors but have no reason to think they are anything but as advertised. The only real issues I ever hear about them is price; truth is you get what you pay for.

What good would it do MAF to mis represent a motor?

As for the comment on their 18mpg claims etc..being BS; I have built 2Fs that do the same thing. Nothing all that special about it but it does cost money to do.

steve-o

i will back you up on the performance aspect of your motors.
i did'nt buy yours but i did copy the design(sorry)
78 2f bored 40 over,maf rv cam,dual point dist, 38mm weber,jacobs wires.
i did buy most everything from you guys with no problems.very pleased :)
as for core charges, if the cust. knows he has a bad head, why would they even waste the time and $$$ to ship it back. have it checked out first to see if its bad. it would be cheaper than shipping it.
in my buisness, if you brought back a broke case on a alternator or starter,YOUR NOT GETTING YOUR CORE $$$ BACK!!
same with ecu's(computers), if it's opened up, YOU DONT GET YOUR CORE BACK!!! just my .02

carry on ;)

P.S. as for 18mpg, definitly, that around what i get in my 40

Ya see, now were are getting some good posts.

Tojons, I am glad to hear everything is working out for you so far, dont forget to do your break in services! You came down here to get it installed right? Sorry I didnt get to meet you.

David, you want me to send you one? What was your credit card # again? I believe a lot of shops can tune a 2f to get good mileage, but it does take a lot of extra time, which equates to extra money. There really is no point in mis-advertising anything, from us, anything I mis-advertise will come up in this forum!

2badfjs, Thats cool that you built it yourself, I send out tons of rebuild parts for people who want to build it themselves or locally. I think there are a lot of great shops out there that can rebuild, but then again, I have had shops call me and ask where the timing mark on the crank pulley is! You are 100% correct about the core thing. A core is a used part that is in rebuildable condition, there really are no exceptions. If the vehicle comes here to be rebuilt, we can use there engine our one of ours already rebuilt, we do not mind either way.

Thanks for the support. Steve.

Steve,

Yes, I had mine done at the shop there in Simi Valley. Did the break in service @ 700 miles. Everything was good. A little oil consumption still at times, but gradually getting better.

We may have talked on the phone once after the work was done.

mines in a 69/40

So does the hi-po MAF engine allow you to use all the smog stuff? i have thought about it, but need to keep it legal for emissions...

i dont have one piece of smog stuff on it.
colorado collector plates rule.
no more emission testing for me...... :D

The hi-po motor is just a long block rebuild. All the other accesories (dist, headers, weber, etc.) are extra. Technically, because the high-performance engine has high compression pistons, it is not smog legal. Whether or not it will pass if you do not tell the smog tech you have high compression pistons......I do not know. Thanks, Steve.

yeah thanks 2bad ~ just rub it in! lol. smog is a pita!!!

anyone have experience with the MAF hi-po and smog? does it work/fit?

I grabbed a 4x4 mag (mostly heeps) because it said something about a 2f rebuild - turns out it was really the MAF hipo swap...not exactly what i expected, and doesn't say anything about smog... = (
