I traded my 35" MT/R's for some 38.50 Swamper TSL/SX's. I knew they would ride rougher but crap, 50 mph is a white knuckle ride now. I've aired them up to 25 psi and that helped a little. Looking for suggestions on ways to balance these out a bit.

:grinpimp:

Yep, my 36" SXs I run at about 15 psi. You don't want to try and run them like a normal tire pressure, you'll give the chiropractor your paycheck.

3370# max load per tire at a max pressure of 30psi....

those 4 tires aired up completely are designed for 13,480# of truck....which your rig ain't even close....

figger you weigh 1/3 of that.... 4500# or so....take the pressure down as well, to 10psi, and see what happens.

I drove them for about 30 minutes this morning after work to get 'em hot and work out the flat spots. At 20 psi the steering was really light and I'd wonder all over the dang road. They have a lot of sidewall roll in them which is prolly what I'm not used to as much as anything.

Got my spacers for the rear axle yesterday so that should help a little. Still debating on the Sky Mfg kit for the front (NO$$$). Gonna flip the front springs and try to come up with 60 series lift spring for the back to stretch the wheelbase which should help the feel of the steering and the ride.

Would it be worth swapping in a 60 series rear axle instead of the spacers?
Does anyone make a 60 series lift spring taller then 3"?
What should I torque the spacers to (6061 aluminum)?

Thanks for the advice

:grinpimp:

spacers to 80 ft#'s...and retorque after your first two wheelin trips...once set, check yearly thereafter.

I considered the 60-series width stuff myself, and still am....but with the 1.5" spacers and 3.5" BS rims, it's pretty damn stable, and steering with the hydro assist is easy.

IMO, put assist on the list prior to an axle change....

http://www.westtexasoffroad.com for a cheap/easy pump tweak....

you'll want a fair amount of reserve fluid too...

1.5" ram

i've heard good on the foxfab stuff, I run a WTOR and have no complaints.

I have heard you say this before about the reserve fluid.

We are doing the a build with hydro and the same ram as you, will I run into fluid problems with the stock 1HZ toyota reservoir?

basically, you want to ensure the reserve fluid is capable of keeping the pump/can sufficiently filled when the ram is fully extended...I'm not sure offhand how much volume a 1-1/2" bore 6" stroke ram takes....

cheaters method....fill the can, turn so the ram is extended, check the level...check again with the ram compressed. if it's within range on the dipstick, yer ok....otherwise...lol....

SpaceGhost did a cheap/easy on his, using a piece of oil-resistant hose clamped to the top of the reservoir and clamping a new fill/cap at the top (cut off a spare can)..a 6" long hose adds enuf capacity to cover the ram, easy, and "should" clear the hood and other things in the way....

Dang-it Woody, you dun talked me into it! (like it took allot  )

Are the Fox Fab and West Texas Off-Road kits basically the same? I'm leaning toward Fox Fab right for the $$$....has anyone had any problems with the systems (no vendor bashing just an honest product review please)

2 x Pi x Diameter x Hight
2 x 3.14 x 1.5 x 6
56.52 cubic in.

your welcome jk

Give Michael Fox (Fox Fab) a call and talk to him. He is a real nice guy and I'm sure he'll tell you the difference.

Maybe your going to have to go back and change your anwser on the "would you drive 500 mile" thread.:) I got my sx's 1 year ago and they seemed ok on the road at first, but now that they are broke in and a little chunked out they plain old suck on the road. Not only is it white knuckle, just think what it's doing to the tie rod ends and bearings.
I'm working toward getting some bead locks for the sx's, and a set of 37"mtr's so I can get back to enjoying driveing my rig around town. As it is now, it's either in my garage or going onto the trailer to get it any where.

Now I know my picture is outdated so WTOR's might be too. We have a similar hose design to WTOR now with the 90's built into the hoses and our rams are now powdercoated.

Its basically the same kit minus the box of course. We do taps and rebuilds also. The only observation that I see from the two pictures is that WTOR's looks like it has brass pipe thread 90 degree fittings where ours are AN fitting cad plated steel. Also, you can see our mounting plates have a larger surface area to weld to. But once again, they may have an outdated picture and may include these things now. I'm not trying to knock their product. Just an observation.

Also, Mud and POR pricing is $240!!!! :grinpimp:
