Hey guys, just wanted to make an intro here... i posted up on the regular 60's wagon thread.. but i'll post up here as well

just wanted to introduce myself
My name's Milo, and i grew up in a land cruiser .. lol
my family had an 83 FJ60 growing up, and i practically grew up in that truck. (yeah yeah im a youngin so what!)
that FJ was eventually sold out of the family unfortunately, however there was one that remained.......
today, I purchased that truck from my aunt.
Here are some details about her:
1 owner.
108,000 original miles.
the truck originally began its life in Oklahoma, and was shipped out to Colorado where it's lived in Snowmass CO for the past 17 years.
Originally Copper Metallic (Rootbeer brown) it was resprayed (unfortunately) a non-toyota metallic off white... - I plan on correcting that.
it was never garaged (again unfortunately) however with that said, it is in very, very good shape. She does have a touch of rust on the tail gate and quarter panels, I also plan on correcting that before i have her re-sprayed in her original color.
My aunt told me that the exhaust was "a bit loose" and that id have to check it out when i bought the truck.... so i climbed under the car, and yeah.. i suppose you could say the exhaust was a bit "loose"
i undid a bit of safety wire, told my aunt to "watch this" and pulled the rear half of the exhaust from the muffler back right out of the car.
came with 2 sets of wheels : summer tires and a set of Blizzaks for the winter
has a Ramsey winch and bull bar.
- if anyone here has recommendations on where to obtain new quarters or a tailgate feel free to chime in!
I drove the truck today from Snowmass 290 miles over 2 mountain passes (11,000) feet and she made the trip beautifully... no hiccups or problems.
Plans for her:
she tends to get a bit hot at idle... i've read that "the general rule is this: if it's getting hot at highway speeds, it's a blocked up cooling system. If it gets hot in traffic, but cools when under speed, it's the fan clutch."
so it sounds like it might be a fan clutch... looked online, and you can get refurbished and tested fan clutches.. may need to get one.
so im going to start with that... and I'll go from there.
ive gt some rust issues ive got to square away eventually but right now im planning on just throwing some stopper like POR15 on there till i can sort out the body issues.
i plan on sorting out all of the mechanicals before i finish out the body.
next on my list are:
Exhaust- the consensus online is to have a custom one made. - just did that the other weekend.. discount exhaust works on Galley did a great job.
Carb.. im looking into one from a member of mud- Trollhole.. his de-smogged units seem to be a good way to go.
suspension- need to replace those old shocks and shackles.. Old man Emu 2" lift. or a HFS lift.. im still debating the two.
-fixed the winch the other weekend too..

just like to say I'm so excited to finally be an FJ60 owner and i look forward to learning and slowly but surely doing a good restoration of this awesome vehicle, and getting to know some of the local members here in the Springs

well, that was a ski rack that the original owner had put on there... trust me it came off the 1st week i owned her.
she needs some OME lovin! every time i see that azz sagging it cracks me up

Just got back from this months meeting and am a brand new member, so I thought it might be time to stop lurking and introduce myself.
I'm Rui Amaral, I moved here from South Carolina in Jul 08, I am a Capt in the Air Force with just about 17 years (12 prior enlisted) in. I teach Portuguese at the USAF Academy.
I am a Ham operator my call is N7RKS, been a ham for over 20 years now. Got my 82 FJ40 in July of this year and wanted to meet others with similar interests.
Hope I get to see more people from the club, maybe some free stickers???

I should introduce myself aswell. I attended the August meeting but haven't made it back since. I also have really crappy internet at home so I have to post from work so no pictures yet.
In April I sold my 93 4Runner of 8 years to buy a 96 FZJ80 and I'm glad I did. Havn't made any mods yet but plan to lift and armor it soon so if anyone has ideas or porducts to suggest please let me know. Got to jet... see my boss coming!

Hello my name is JT or Jason Thorne I'm a new member since 11-17-09 and new fj60 owner since 11-09-09. I am already addicted. I have an 84 FJ60 2f, 4 speed, extended shakles , adda leaf front and rear, 285/75 r17 BFG mt km, I am already starting to aquire all the parts and info for 350, and SOA. I am originally from FL been in Co for 4 years in Colorado Springs for 3 years. I was tired of looking at the mountains and wondering what was up there so traded a 96 suburban 4x4 loaded for this truck. So thats the short of me and I look forward to meeing everybody in the club.
Any tips on the mods I listed 350 and SOA would love to here them. I am on here everyday after work reading and learning (i hate night shift) hope to talk to ya'll soon.

I like those wheels.
My only suggestion would be going with a TH700R4 instead of the TH350. Plenty strong, lower 1st gear (I think) and an overdrive. Both Chuck (PPFJ60) and Trevor (Isotel) both run this auto behind their 350's.
You planning on buying a "Kit" for the SOA (Ruffstuff etc..) or doing the fab work yourself?
As for tires, build and buy tires at least a size bigger than what you think you want. For a wagon I would suggest at a minumum 35's on an SOA, but you will probably be tempted to upgrade to 37's in the near future, so consider those as well.
4.88's or 5.29's in the diffs, lockers of any type or kind. Obvisoulsy ARB's rock, but aren't cheap. Aussie lockers or lock-rite's are a ton of bang for the buck.
Armor is a must for a wagon. Front / Rear bumpers and sliders. Good skid plate is good insurance too.
Last piece of advice, don't take too long building it, becuase you may be sick of looking at it by the time you are done. Make sure you get out and enjoy it.

This also my DD for now so it shouldn't be down for to long at a time maybe a week at a time (I HOPE)

Howdy all--I'm just working my way into this thing. Took a trip this summer with ManJerk & a couple others and have been building in anticipation of more soon. I have a 83 FJ60 (Coprolite) that I have cut out all of the rust, welded in new stuff, painted, put together some home-made sliders and bumpers and am working on an Old Man Emu 2.5 inch lift. Planning on a reciever-mounted Warn, Aussie Lockers and safari rack as soon as I can justify the cash.
The Book Cliff Cruisers out of Grand Junction would be closer to Norwood. You would also be very close to Moab

Can you belong to this club with a stock 97? In my defense, I did have an 83 FJ40 for some years in a 4x4 club in Panama. Wished I never would of sold that one. In any case, I now have a grown up landcruiser. Actually, I've had it since 2000. Just wanting to see how "hardcore" or not you guys are. Not looking to rock crawl, just looking to do a little camping with my son and having a few guys around who know what they are doing. Wrong or right place here?

Second that--I had a great run with Mark & a few others with a completely stock (and seriously sagging) FJ60 last summer. Very friendly bunch & big on family involvement. I'm bringing my kids along on the next run I get to.
