Did this mark polish out of the crank?

I thought you had posted pictures of a bearing that had a similar type of weird imprint on it (i.e. not a radial score like you might expect), but I must be mis-remembering...?

You're the man. Was trying to find more info on those.

Pardon my ignorance but when they say a full ring set does that come with the combustion rings and oil rings?
yes.

Just no wedding ring........ thank you, thank you... I'll be here all week... be sure to tip your waitress.

...
But still debating oem vs NPR.

IMHO, your machine shop is giving good advice, ask them? I have had great results from NPR, wouldn't hesitate to run them.

Haha you caught me before I edited my post since I realized I was being a dumbass on that one .

But still debating oem vs NPR.

The set of NPR's I installed looked high quality and the truck has been running like a top with no noticeable oil consumption for years.

Did this mark polish out of the crank?

Hard to say from here in the cheap seats, but it looks like a slight rust line. Most often is from a bit of moisture in the bearing gap and the motor sitting long enough to make a line. Not uncommon, if we took good running motors apart, would not be surprised to find marks like that in many of them. especially those that aren't DD. If that is what it is and I were running the polisher, would not take any extra metal out to remove a cosmetic blemish.

Got the block and crank back today. Not enough material removal to need under/oversize bearing. Going with standards sizes. The hone looks great and I'm getting excited. Need to get my hands on some FIPG or Toyota seal packing. Everyone seems to lean towards the Toyota though I can't believe its really going to make a difference.

I'll get better crank polish photos this week. It was wet and I didnt want to unseal it in an unheated garage yet!

Can anyone tell what the finished sizes say?

I also have a full build thread over here

Rings from NPR are $120 or so,

NPR SWT10184 Piston Ring Set

Just got off the phone with them. They talked to NPR. No standard size sets available and no ETA on when they will be. Not very friendly customer service.
At this point leaning towards spending the $300 on OEM unless i can find high quality rings for this thing somewhere else.

Just to update those who were wondering, went with clevite main and con rod bearings with OEM piston rings. Struck out finding non oversized rings anywhere but OEM .

They shipped in mahle boxes with clevite stamps hahah they seem great quality though . No hesitation running them .

Agree, was just reciting the mud mantra. I will be burning with you, mine has an aftermarket head gasket, so embarrassing! :hillbilly:

Most have had good results with clevites at a fraction of the OEM cost. I decided to give them a go.
Piston rings were hard to find besides oem ., oem bearings were readily available .

I saw that in the previous post... I figured I'd put a link up in case anyone else was reading and looking for resources. I completely forgot that people don't ever use the search anymore...
This is exciting, keep us posted on the progress!
