I hacked my resonator to mount the Hanna. My exhaust has nearly 160k miles on it and the stock muffler is huge (and the rig whistles like a screaming mee-mee) so I figured time to re-work the exhaust aft of the cats.

Guy at the shop said to go with the Magnaflow vs the Flowmaster. No resonator needed and less noise in the cabin.

Heading back tomorrow to find a way to quiet things down. That 6 needs more muffling...it just doesn't sound right trying to do the street rod thing. I guess I got spoiled as a youngster listening to small blocks with glass packs :princess:

I have the magnaflow, no resonator and I increased to a 3" pipe. It's louder, but I'm getting to like it. Makes it sound supercharged.

When I had my 40, I originally put on a glass pack muffler. It was too loud, so instead of replacing it, I added a turbo muffler in series. The turbo is a little more than a glass pack and on it's own would be very loud, the two in series provided better performance that a stndard muffler with about the same sound output.

So, I suggest a glass pack or turbo in series like where the spare tire use to be. That way you will benifit from the increased performance of the magnaflow without the drawbacks. Kind of like a resonator, in a way:)

I saved the OEM resonator and had them plumb it back in.

Definitely settled things down, although it is still louder than what I would consider ideal.

Best part of the resonator mod? It was free! But they reamed me on the Magnaflow...so I guess we are even now :grinpimp:

I tried a bunch of combinations fo mufflers, resonaters etc and went back to stock. I could not get rid of the drone at hwy speeds.
Cheers,
Sean

I'm surprised because I use a 24" magnaflow w 2 1/2 " cat-back system and find it only slightly louder than stock but with a deeper tone. Did you go with a smaller magnflow?? That will definitely take up less space but will not be as quiet.

I used the Magnaflow one-into-two to get dual exhaust pipes and feed that passion for a nice exhaust note....it was just too loud. I put a resonator on each pipe and the noise is now a good one:)

It is the 11226.

Drove 75 miles today. Still too loud.

I am getting old, I guess. 30 years ago I probably would have liked it.

I am thinking about going with another straight through in the former spare tire well. Maybe that will tone it down.

Don't anyone dare say go back to stock!

I have dual 3" Magnaflows on my LS1/RX-7 with cats/Xpipe and they are loud.

A Dynomax muffler or (2) in series should also be looked at. HotRod magazine had a muffler shootout and they were one of the quietest that also produced some of the highest hp. The stock muffler is $$$'s.

Flowmaster...

I did the 50 series SUV one... just a little rumble... I think this is a good match up...

I specifically asked the guy at the shop about the 50 series Flowmaster as I had heard good reports on this one. He said the Magnaflow would be quieter.

I guess is is all in the ear of the beholder...
