...and just want to verify bronze-tint Pilkington is what I need to get back to oem on an '01 LX. Rock chip from a miserable highway project caused paving company's insurance company to cover it 100%.:p

First owner replaced windshield using PPH Solex, but it's tinted a very dark green, while rest of truck is bronze.

/Off Technical--Anybody in the Boise area who's been nailed by rocks recently on Meridian Road, email me from here if you need contact info for fresh glass.

I recently replaced mine. The insurance people told me there were two color options, bronze or green. The rest of mine had a bronze tint so I went bronze. Looks the same as the original did.

It sounds like the previous owner for yours tried the green.

I have an OE windshield at the shop waiting to go in.

What is it you need to know?

Markings? Shading?
Only that we can confirm Pilkington is oem.

Thx

Steve

I had a replacement installed in my '03 a while back, bronze tint with night vision panel, it's etched LEXUS and ASAHI, which I take it means manufactured by ASAHI Glass, which should be OEM.

Pilkington isn't OEM, Toyota glass is OEM and is literally about 5x the cost of any of the other manufacturers. I've never heard of a correlation between the tint at the top of the windshield and the side glass, but there sure could be.

Early LX's were bronze, later LX's could be either green or bronze depending on options (night vision/rain sensors).

Yep, when I called my glass insurance they asked if I wanted bronze or green tint, when I specified I wanted OE the guy said that we had no choice but to go OE due to night vision - he didn't have an aftermarket option. Installer said the screen was over $1500.

My replacement was bronze (nightvision windshield on 03 LX). $1500 is correct. Be VERY careful about who you get to install it. I would not let someone install it if they have not done a LX windshield in the past. Ours was done 3 times due to air leaks and wind noise.

Last OE one in Canada as of a few weeks ago.

Wasn't cheap but I know it won't be distorted like some of the aftermarket ones that we see roll through.

Were you wanting to see the actual tint to it? Or just the manufacturer?

I have an '02 LX 470 and I'm quite sure it has the original windshield. It says "Lexus" and underneath that says "Laminisafe" and below that "Asahi".

I believe I read (on a different thread on this forum a while ago) that the windshields used in Lexus 100 series vehicles are somewhat thicker than the windshields used in Toyota branded 100 series vehicles.

I would seriously doubt that, but I don't know for sure...thinking more probably like a Chevrolet/GMC thing. Essentially same vehicles but for AHC etc. on the LX.

Thanks so much for all replies so far. I'm gonna' take a run at the Toyoto/Lexes oem glass, but if I end up with Pilkington it's still a freeby.

Steve, Just make sure you get it done at the dealer or someone who knows and has done LCs before. Mine was done by prev owner and they didn't use the correct OEM parts/seals, so I have a constant whistle at hwy speeds..super annoying, but will have to wait until it cracks before I can justify replacing. Mine is a Pilkington too which dealer says is closest thing to OEM

I looked at 3 lx470s, all with pilkington glass. 2 of them sounded like a window was cracked open. I bought the 3rd, which is dead quiet and performs like stock.

Interestingly, 1 of them had the pilkington and every other window said toyota on it rather than lexus. Wonder what happened there!

Glass guys say it will be done by someone who more or less specializes in cruisers...

I've read the fsm and there is more than a bit to a correct installation...I replaced some sheet metal screws with the correct rivets when I first bought her.
