LX470 wheel spacers-disadvantages? (4 Viewers)

I use the same Spidertrax spacers shown above. I can't say I've noticed any negative impacts. I went a long time without them, but finally pulled the trigger when I went to the ICON/Nitro setup. I'm able to stuff and turn without any issues at all.
 
Just reinstalled my wheel spacers and it reminded me of one additional disadvantage: given the larger scrub angle when front diff is locked steering the vehicle can become very difficult (provided that there is high traction on the wheels.)

You can try for yourself (assuming you have the spacers and front diff lock) just go to a pavement parking lot and lock the front diff and try to turn front wheels lock to lock. It won't be easy/happy. Same applies when you are on some gnarly rocks with high traction and try to turn the wheel...

I don't think locking the front on pavement and trying to turn lock to lock is a good idea. That's a sure fire way to break something. You should try to keep your wheels as straight as possible when the front is locked and there is traction. It's supposed to be hard to turn when the front is locked. Spacers or not.

This was not moving (when moving you won't feel the same force). I believe the forces at work are much greater in the "Real world" scenarios than in this example. I've noticed the same issue when actually wheeling (sometimes on rocks, where I'm sure there is more traction on the front than I had on that parking lot), that's where this becomes noticeable...

(...before we jump into the, why use lockers when on rocks with good traction, there aretimes where I've found myself lifting tires, etc. where ATRAC wasn't getting the job done, and lockers were needed--even with "high traction" environment for front tires)

...without spacers this increased turning effort was not nearly as noticeable (just my 2cents...) If one is not regularly locking the front diff in higher traction environments, then this may go completely unnoticed...
 
Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

The front will be harder to turn (steer) anytime it's locked..... The steering wheel will want to stay straight because turning will not allow the wheels to spin at different speeds.

I think you are right. I noticed that with the front locked, it always seemed harder to turn the front wheels. With the spacers, it just seemed a bit harder still--could be just me. :-)
 
Just bought a whole set. They help widen your stance but not as much as I was hoping. Granted I wouldn't want to go any wider than 1.25".

Is there another company that makes the front ones for cheaper? Would the rear ones fit on front? Or they they hit the nuts?

I had 1.25" (30mm) Bora spacers for a little over a year. I suspect they make them for spidertrax- they look identical except Bora is black. The wider track improved the handling/cornering (less body roll), and steering input didn't feel any different to me. No rubbing or clearance issues with my 275/70-18 K02s. The only downside I could see to having them is trailside repair & access to the front hub; making sure you can remove them incase you needed to remove the flange to pull the axle. If you use locktite (and you should) getting them off can be a process with out heat. Even though they are billet, they can stick/ to the hub (even with anti seize applied to the mating surfaces)

I just upgraded to some new wheels with a +25mm offset, and subsequently removed my spacers. I have a full set of the lug centric/Hub centric Bora spacers I'll be putting up for sale shortly if anyone is interested.
