Hi All, I'm a new owner of a 99 LX470, my first foray into Lexus/LC100 having owned previous 3 generations of 4Runner and Sequoia as well as Tundra. I notice that with my LX470 which has 200K miles, the RPM when I'm cruising on highway reaches 3PM, it doesn't settle back down to 2000 rpm which is what i'm accustomed to seeing on my Tundra and sequoia. Is this normal and to be expected with an AWD vehicle The lx does not seem to be laboring and no shakes, I've not done a compression test and it coudl use a tune up but just checking from those who have the lx470 in this year range, 3000rpm normal for hwy driving or does it need a tuneup? Also previous owner said he put premium in it but I've always been a Chevron 87 for all of my Toyota 4.7 and it's been fine all over 240K miles and still going. What do you all use for your lx470?

I'm going to check in the morning but when I say new to me, literally a few hours new so this will be one of the most embarrassing noobie first post on here.

My 2000, with 33" tires, is about 2700 rpm at 70mph, and it goes up from there.

Get on the highway and verify the RPM using an ODBII reader that can display live data.

The stepper motors in these gauge clusters are known to either go out completely, or act wonky by displaying higher or lower than the actual true measurement

A tune up won't drop your RPM's on the highway. As above, you'll need live data to see what your fuel trim is reading. If it's higher on the highway and at idle and low speeds you may benefit from a bunch of different things. I use only super name brand gas in mine, but it's not my daily so that doesn't really affect me. At 80 MPH I'm at about 2100 RPM with 33"s but I also have an 05 which has a 5 speed so probably doesn't matter to you.

This is good info. Mine will occasionally get stuck about 1k RPM higher than actual engine speed.

Fwiw my 2005 with 5-speed, 4.88s, and 33s runs 3k at 80MPH. Slightly less on 35s.

I did an oil change and a 4 qt flush of the tranny fluid and that did the trick, 2000 rpm at 60 and about 2600 at 70mph on the fwy on 2757016. Thanks

That's what I'm finding after the oil change and tranny oil drain of about 4 qt. It seems to shift much better and the rpm is around 2600 at 70mph on freeway.

Your 1999 has the A343F 4-speed transmission.

While I am not sure what speeds you are driving, the below pictures show RPM in 4th gear (overdrive) as well as in 3rd gear, both with the torque converter locked.

05 here as well. I don't really trust my tach gauge at all anymore. Sometimes too high, other times too low, sometimes accurate, lol. I just listen to the engine noise.

Good news is all my other gauges seem fine.

4speed transmission vs a 5speed... Depends on the years of Yotas...
