... it will cost you one-THOUSAND three-hundred seventy-five dollars installed!!!!

When I had the windshield replaced in my GS400 it was $195. The night vision was pretty cool, up until now :bang:

That is for OEM glass, new trim, and new rain sensing tape. They had an alternative no-name brand that was $100 cheaper. Thumbs-up to Traveler's Insurance for agreeing OEM glass was the better option. I only have to pay the deductible ($500).

The OEM non-night vision windshield isn't much cheaper.

For real? Is that only for LX or for both LC as well? Why does it cost so much for a windshield? My Bimmer with rain sensor only cost $250, and it's made in Germany and is a bigger piece of glass.

damn. i'm about to have to get glass for my LC. good thing i have complementary glass replacement as part of my policy.

FYI- I checked on mine, and it would cost me more to have free glass coverage than it would to just eat the cost of the $500 deductible.

What the fawk is night vision glass?

Help me out please as I called my glass peeps and Green tint with rain sensor is $270.00 installed and Bronze was $600.00 installed.

Year that this is and the night thing?

Shane

I believe nightvision was only an option here on the Lexus.

On Toyotapartscheap.com, I'm seeing an MSRP on the 2003 LC windshield as follows.

Green top shaded $1090
Bronze $1124

On Toyotadiy, I'm seeing three part numbers for different windshields ranging in price from $329-1280. Not sure what that means.

Question, which if any of the 100 series windshields have UV protection, like the side doors? My aftermarket Pilkington glass sure doesn't.

I can only speak to the LX- but I assume the non-night vision LC has the same setup.

AATLAS1X- the LX has a night vision option, and there is a little opaque rectangle embeded in the glass directly in front of the driver on the lower part of the windshield. The night vision system projects the image onto this area. I do not know what would happen if you projected it onto standard glass, I would guess the image would not be as clear.

From what I know, your options for standard glass are the OEM stuff, that varies in price listed above, and generic glass that is much cheaper, more like a windshield on a regular car. The labor will be more on the LX OR LC due to the fact that it is a more involved install than the typical car. For the LX, there are indeed two glass options designated by the color of the tint strip at the top- they can pull it up by your VIN.

I've gone through THREE OEM lexus windshields in the past 3 years. In Oct '06, it cost $1K out the door (w/ rain sensing tape, rivets, mouldings, no night vision). In Oct '07, price rose to $1200 and some change. In oct '08, it was $1500 and change. This was all done at the same dealership. As I have full glass coverage through Allstate here in AZ, they covered each incident 100%! In some states like CA, you are screwed if your windshield breaks from a rock, as it's covered under comprehensive, meaning you have to pay the deductible.

May be I did something wrong. I just for the hack of it, I did a price check on my 01 LC from Safelite windshield replace (most dealership and Insurance use them here in LA area.) And the price comes to $164.95 with $11.95 for moldings. Can that be right?

But you take the risk that the installer has never done a 100 series windshield and has no idea of the rivets, especially in So. CA (where there seems to be few broken windshields [compared to in AZ/NM/CO] due to the shear volume of cars; any debris on the road only lasts a minute before hundreds of cars have thrown it aside) On one guy's truck, the installer bent the body metal around the windshield. On others, the windshield doesn't sit right and whistles and/or leaks. If insurance is paying, the OEM windshield (if your deductible is $500) vs. an after market for $200 is only $300. A year ago, that would have only been 3 tanks of gas!
